I bought a Sony Walman MD MZ-N505 a while back and had copied a bunch of music on the mini-discs. Its been while and I wanted to put the music back on my pc because I have a new MP3 player. Well what do you know when I try to transfer it back on to a new pc (old one is a goner) it won't let me.

I tried using the OpenMG software and also tried the newer SonicStage software.

I basically tells me since I am trying to transfer these back to a new pc that I am screwed.

I went to the help site and this is what it says:

Knowledge Article C392392

Error: The selected tracks originated from another computer. Cannot transfer the selected tracks.

This error may occur if you are trying to transfer tracks from your portable player that originated from another computer.

NOTE: This error may also occur if you are trying to transfer tracks originally transferred to a Net MD™ or Hi-M™D Walkman® player using the MD Simple Burner application back into the computer using the SonicStage® software. Tracks transferred to a Net MD™ or Hi-MD™ Walkman® player using the MD Simple Burner application can only be managed using that application.

It is not possible to transfer these tracks to another computer using the portable player. If you have a new computer, you can use the backup tool to transfer your library of music files to your new computer.

NOTE: If you do not have a backup or no longer have access to the original computer, you will have to delete the tracks from your portable player and re-import them from the original source into the new computer.

Is there anyway around this or did I just get bent over by these guys?

If so, I just lost a tote load of cash invested in my music.

yeah unfortunately, the n505 can not upload old recordings. the newest MD recorder Sony MZ-RH1 can upload recordings not made by sonicstage. but i guess u dont want another MD recorder?

No, I just bought a Sandick MP3. Is there any way around that by using another program or hacking scenario?

If it makes you feel any better, you didn't get bent over by those guys; you bent over voluntarily because you didn't do your research on the limitations of net-md before you made your purchase.

You can record the music to your pc via real-time by using programs such as Audacity, enter the word into the search and you'll find several threads talking about it. You can also transfer the music up using the newest recorder, MZ-RH1, but why buy a new recorder if you just bought an MP3 player...

Your right, I have to take accountability for that. One would think that would be a given, but I forgot that common sense is not a requirement in business practices.

Thanks for the alternative to saving my music! Atleast there is away to do it.

 there is no problem that can't be aggrivated by adding a little guilt (freely after calvin & hobbes)... but you're right of course, bland

if you could get hold of a MD with optical out (to use, not to buy as that would be costly) and use TotalRecorder ($11) you could make a purely digital copy of the music...

PS: the RH1 is useless here as the tracks were downloaded from PC and those are still restricted by Sony

It's still amazing that people get mad at their unit for not doing something it was not meant to do. He knew from when he bought the unit that it did not upload to the computer, the check in does not physically put the track back into the computer, it just erases the usage track (my words, technical term is probably diifferent).

Can't wait to get on the Sandisc forum and see the complaints against it by our esteemed poster.

Well not entirely... He could modify the N505 to enable TOC cloning (I've done this with my R700) and clone a TOC from an analog-recorded disc and he would then be able to upload the discs freely. Of course he would have to trackmark the discs all over again, but still.. -_-

ok, the RH1 is practically useless here as the tracks were downloaded from PC and those are still restricted by Sony unless you don't mind hacking stuff :P
