Sparda
Today i had just put a back order on a RH1. I will be able to pick it up at the sony store on tuesday. I hope i made the right decision.... even put down a deposit. Have a gut feeling that the minor annoyances may become a big one. Need reassurance lol. Sparda
are you being sarcastic or you just want to know. I'll list them: no trackinfo on main unit thats a biggie, ugly protruding eject button without eject prevention like on previous models, and no external battery and a few more here and there. heathenmagic
I have had one for a month now, and used it constantly. Personally, I don't have any problem with the unit at present. I can see that these niggles can annoy users. But personally, I haven't regretted purchasing it, as it suits my playing and recording needs. The track info missing on the main unit was annoying on the first day, but I got used to the remote and I'm ok with it now. I concede, it can be annoying when using the line out option, as you can't use the remote at the same time. Duh!! At the moment, I have only knocked the stop button while in my pocket, forgetting to use the hold button! Not experienced the annoying eject button yet. Nothing perfect and neither is the RH1 I guess, but I find it close enough to the mark.
Tunster
are you being sarcastic or you just want to know. I'll list them: no trackinfo on main unit thats a biggie, ugly protruding eject button without eject prevention like on previous models, and no external battery and a few more here and there.I'm not trying to be nasty, but I want to counter-act your annoyances....no trackinfo on main unit - Why is it annoying? If you're going to have it in your pocket and use it as a portable device, why would you want to keep getting it out to see the track titles? The remote is more than sufficient.ugly protruding eject button without eject prevention - In terms of the device's design, where else could it been put? Its in the right place and I think it looks brill there. Ugly is definately the wrong word in my opinion.no external battery - I gather its down to personal preference. An external battery option would of made the device look ugly to be honest. Just buy a second-hand LIP-4WM battery off ebay for a backup battery. No device is perfect, but I think you'll enjoy its freedom to upload/download tracks now than ever before. The HD Digital Amp is a big big plus as well, how could you say no to clear sound?

If you're going to have it in your pocket and use it as a portable device, why would you want to keep getting it out to see the track titles? The remote is more than sufficient. What if the MD is in Line Out mode (e.g. when it's hooked up to a home/car hi-fi)? Then you can't use the remote, and thus can't (easily) find out what's playing without a track list. That said, 9/10 times, my RH1 sits in my pocket with the remote on my belt clip. In that instance, I'd rather have the RH1's display turned completely off and use the LCD on the remote.ugly protruding eject button without eject prevention - In terms of the device's design, where else could it been put? Its in the right place and I think it looks brill there. Ugly is definately the wrong word in my opinion. It does get pushed in a bit easily though. The display cover could do with being a few mm wider on the left, just to match up with the guard on the other side of the button. But if you did that, you'd get people complaining that it was too hard to push in.. It's a balancing act, and I think Sony have got it pretty much right.no external battery - I gather its down to personal preference. An external battery option would of made the device look ugly to be honest. Just buy a second-hand LIP-4WM battery off ebay for a backup battery. If you're really fussed for an external battery, build one. Mini-USB plug, 5V regulator, 2xAA NiMHs. Job done.I'm thinking of building one myself, once I get a Round Tuit...No device is perfect, but I think you'll enjoy its freedom to upload/download tracks now than ever before. The HD Digital Amp is a big big plus as well, how could you say no to clear sound? I think I've said this before, but the RH1 is the first MD that I've had that didn't need an insane amount of EQ tweaking to sound "right" with my Sennheisers. The whole "it just works" aspect is really nice...Sure it has a few minor issues, but that's all they are - minor issues. And it's harder to see in a dark concert hall. All the better for stealth recording. Not that I'd do that, of course....
Sparda
no but the thing is the eject button looks like one from a cheap $29.99 cassete player how lame is that? why didn't they use the sleek and sexy slide eject button they had on previous models. even the other type of push eject would have been better than the one currently used. Also the track info is very important on the main unit, like already mentioned alot of people use the line out function. I mean i don't think it is that difficult to program the minidisc player to display the track info on the main unit at the least they can come up wih a firmware upgrade.
