I really like the sound of this unit. Bass can be overpowering on some headphones but with the bass turned off and eggo D11's sounds really good. The remote took a little getting used to but the jog dial is exactly like the R900's for navigating between tracks.

Bland, it's niether. Just 1 step, either on or off. Kind of like the bass boost button on older CDP units.

Sector: The remote is EL backlit.

The remote has a clip, so, if positioned just right, I would look like some sort of space cadet. :P

I have it, though it hasn't seen any use in months. The bass boost in this unit features some smart adjustment system which boosts the bass according to the volume of the track played, so you don't get deafening bass if you crank the sound up. The remote lights up in a lovely blue shade, similar to the Indi-glo watches. One of the first and best units JVC pumped out. Rock on. \m/ ^_^ \m/

Okay, I did not know that. That is actually pretty cool. It is still a little overpowering with some of my music. Maybe it is just me. :D

Looks nice, but a strange one. The remote was the first thing that struck me but that was followed by the weird eject mechanism and it looks like it takes both a NiMH gumstick AND an AA internally. Not a battery configuration I've ever seen before.

That's what really made this unit attractive to me. It's a little offbeat. The eject button is actually the rectangle with the word "eject". You just push it to eject. The neat thisg is the manual eject lock. You turn the knob about a quarter turn clockwise to lock it. It keeps you from accidentally ejecting the disc.

Yes, both an AA and gumstick can be used internally. I'll have to check the instructions, but I think you cannot have both in at the same time. That gumstick is the original and it is dead unfortunately. Not a big loss since I have several extras. :D
