souwalker Posted September 21, 2006 Report Share Posted September 21, 2006 (edited) HiAm calling from Sydney Australia.I just rcvd my HI-MD MZ-NH600.The only reason I got this is to record my bands live/home songs (recordings). I know I can use the analogue line in on the above recorder to do this. All instruments/vocals will be coming out of out mixer. Record Out (on mixer) to Line In (MD Recorder)The other only reason I got the HI MD recorder is the ability to transfer recording to my computer where I can convert the HI MD recodings into wav. I then conver the wav to mp3.The box comes with Sonic Stage 2.2 which I understand is a very old version. Is the newer version (4) windows xp compatible? Where can I d/load that from?Do I need a separate utility to convert the hi-md recordings to wav?I know this subjects been covered to death. It's just that we'd be doing trial recordings this weekend and I'd like to know I've got the basics covered and not spend too much valuable band time fiddling with the right recording format, conversion utility etc etc.I undersand too that to be able to transfer and convert hi-md live recordings to computer,hi-md recorder must be set to record on, at least HI-SP?I read on one of the threads that the only method of transferring a live recording to computer is using a male-male 3.5 stereo rca plug? I am confused. Use either 3.4, available here as a full installer: http://forums.minidisc.org/downloads/details.php?file=21Or use Sony's online installer for 4.0 from a region of your choice:http://forums.minidisc.org/index.php?showtopic=9586 Yes, they're XP compatible. Personally, I have stayed with 3.4 because people keep reporting odd problems with 4.0, mostly about .mp3 handling. Either one should upload your recordings easily. You were looking at some old instructions for MD, the pre-2004 units, not Hi-MD, which is what you have. SonicStage will upload from disc to computer, and can convert the uploaded files to .wav . When you get SonicStage, look through all the Options under Tools. Among them is one that automatically converts every uploaded file to .wav after it's uploaded. But if I were you, I would uncheck it. Upload the files first, then convert them to .wav in a separate step. Doing it all at once takes a lot of processing power. You'll want to record music in Hi-SP at the very least, and PCM (CD-quality) for the highest fidelity. But all Hi-MD formats including Hi-LP, which is more compressed, will upload from your NH600.Once you have your recordings, open SonicStage on your PC and connect the NH600 with the USB. It will be detected, and a second window will pop up showing its contents. Put a title on the group folder, highlight what you want to transfer, click on the red left-pointing arrow to transfer, and you'll have the recordings on your computer fairly quickly. The Low Volta Posted September 24, 2006 Report Share Posted September 24, 2006 PCM = wav in an atrac wrapper so to be able to use it in other programs etc without restrictions you'd still have to have it 'converted to wav' (but unlike all other conversions, this doesn't do anything to the audio part, it simply removes the atrac data parts (a wav file can't contain tags etc ...) And I can use Sonic Stage to convert the PCM recordings to wav?On one of the above replies, the poster said that there is an option on Sonci Stage Tool Option to uncheck auto convert to wav.
