Question

I just read A1000 service manual, it uses freescale SCF5250 chip. In this machine, only sub system control still uses SONY own developed chip. But where is Sony's VME, and MagicGate? Are those all going to firmware?

I believe due to this change, SONY haave a very tough time to bring CONNECT to work properally. The actual hardware design of A1000 is much complicated than others'. But anyway, SONY's R&D is very very weak.

and not only that, I am sure the chip is cheaper in price for sony rather than making their own. in addition to stuge's post, the chip can also support jpeg and drm wma.

For sure. If it was cheaper to design and make one they probably would have.

What's interesting is that the SCF5250 supports video. Well that isn't that interesting but the fact that they put it in the A1000/A3000. I'm guessing they are already planning for video support in the next player?
