OMGJBOX.EXE error with Sonic Stage

I've recently had the same OMGJBOX.exe problem as a few other people. And I have the latest SP2 and everything. I get the crash every time I open SonicStage. It doesn't even get past the splash screen, and I'm getting tired of it. I now have a useless $200 Hi-MD player.

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

I hope you've reinstalled SonicStage after upgrading to SP, just in case there were leftovers from before the upgrade. Back up My Library (with the SonicStage Backup Tool, under Programs/SonicStage) if there's anything in there.

You might also try turning off the Windows firewall (Start/Settings/Control Panel/Windows Firewall) or the firewall in your security/antivirus program to see if that is preventing SonicStage from loading. If it is you'll have to tweak the firewall to let the program run.

Are you using Windowblinds or another Windows skinning software? That can stop SonicStage at loading. You need to turn it off.

The thing is I had SP2 installed BEFORE I loaded SonicStage. And SonicStage worked just FINE for several months. And then one day I transfered a CD to my library, and then I tried to transfer it to my MD player. That's when I first got the error. Since then it's been giving me the error when I startup SonicStage. I've uninstalled and reinstalled a few different version of SonicStage, including 4.2. Still nothing.

Should I try uninstalling and reinstalling SP2???

I don't like messing with WIndows itself unless there's no other choice. What about other music players? Real, Winamp, iTunes, etc. Could one of them have "upgraded" itself and interfered with SonicStage? Why not try uninstalling other music players (one by one) and seeing if that helps.

And are you sure there's no firewall blocking it? Every so often my firewall program decides not to recognize an application that I've been using for a while, and I have to change the settings again to allow it to load.

A - HAH! Well, I tried the firewall thing ... nothing.

However comma I rolled back Windows Media Player from version 11. So far so good. Apparantly Media Player 11 doesn't play well with others. This is a bummer because I really liked 11 a LOT better than 10. So until this problem is solved (which I'm sure it never will be) I'll be stuck with 10.

We better make a note of this. WMP behaving jealously... who would have thought about it?

I know, right? Well .... before SonicStage I used WMP for all my music managing, CD burning, etc. Granted, I still use it for all that, and I only use SS to transfer to my MD player. But I guess WMP was secretly jealous all along. It's only when I updated to v11 that it had the power to act on it.

Maybe this information should be stickied?
