poe
The 1st generation HIMD units that being NH600, NH600D, NH700, NH800, NH900, NH1 and NH3D have this ability. The 2nd gen units left this feature out these models where RH710, RH910, RH10 and RH10DP(not for sure about this model#, the one with the built in camera). The RH1 I'm not positive but I believe that it has Net MD recording also. POE Edited February 26, 2007 by poe

raintheory
You can use SonicStage to transfer LP2/LP4 (and "SP Compatible") formats to any Hi-MD recorder. The 1st gen and the RH1 are the only units that will record those formats on the units themselves though (and you have to use a standard MD disc either way, not a 1GB Hi-MD disc).Keep in mind that if you record in the older formats with a 1st gen recorder (on the unit itself), you will not be able to upload these recordings to PC. nephilim3
You can use SonicStage to transfer LP2/LP4 (and "SP Compatible") formats to any Hi-MD recorder. The 1st gen and the RH1 are the only units that will record those formats on the units themselves though (and you have to use a standard MD disc either way, not a 1GB Hi-MD disc).(Please don't laugh, I have a limited understanding of MD formats, etc.)I recently purchased an MDX-C7900 Sony AM/FM MINI DISC Player (made in 1998) for my car and, of course, it does not play HI MDs. So does this mean I can use SonicStage to record on any non HI MD disc, like the 74 or 80 minute ones, using an MDLP format? If so, how do I select that option? I can only seem to record in ATRAC 3 mode using Sonic Stage. I have an MZ_DH10P, the one with the color LCD and built in camera, so according to your post I can use it to transfer LP2/LP4 (and "SP Compatible") formats from Sonic Stage. Any help would be appreciated. Having to rerecord all of my discs into an older format is a small price to pay for being able to front load them into a head unit in my car! raintheory
So does this mean I can use SonicStage to record on any non HI MD disc, like the 74 or 80 minute ones, using an MDLP format?Yes.First insert a standard MD into your DH10P. Now in the Transfer screen of SonicStage, select "Net MD" from the "Mode" drop down box (see below). This will install the "Net MD" driver on your PC. Now we go into "Transfer Settings" by one of the following methods. Go to Tools/Options/Transfer/Net MD and click on "Transfer Settings", or just click on the following icon in the transfer screen on SonicStage (below the red arrows). From here you can choose LP2/LP4 or SP "Compatibility Mode". Keep in mind that SP "Compatibility Mode" will play on older units (non-MDLP compatible units) but this format is only 132kbps ("true" SP is 292kbps, search the forums for "fake sp" for more info). Avrin
If you have a 2nd generation unit, like the RH[9]10, and desperately need to record in true SP to give the disk to a friend, or to play it on a standard machine, check out this thread: http://forums.minidisc.org/index.php?showtopic=18618But the RH1 is a much better option. pata2001
In short: Out of the box, only first gen HiMD units WITH optical-in and the RH1 can record in legacy SP on legacy MD. Any NetMD compatible units can transfer fake SP from Sonicstage.
