Transfer yes... but to music center

Buying the RH1 just to transfer MD recordings to a computer does not suit me. But like many I am thinking about migrating my music to another device. There are some "music centers" available nowadays. Kind of hard disks that do not need to be hooked on a computer. Not anyone made by Sony as far as I know, so I don't think there is any that could play ATRAC files. And also not too many dedicated to sound only. I don't care about video files.

I'm looking for a music manager of the sort. Something independent, not connected to a computer. If I cannot play Atracs on it, with the ability to record or better, transfer optically or digitally recordings made on my Sony JB-930. It has both optical and coaxial output.

Can you help?

There are such devices actually...

Sorry for answering late in the sub-section...

But could you be a little bit more specific. Are there any that can play ATRACs, mp3 and wav?

I gave a look to some of these "media centers" but none of them is dedicated to music. They're more focused on video, tv, even internet... The problem is that with all these features I would pay mostly for things I don't need.

I'm looking for one that just plays music. You put it on, choose your song or album and push Play... If there is a screen, it would just be to display the song titles. 500GB would be a minimum capacity.

I don't think what you are looking for are called Media Centers. Thats something different.

What you are looking for are called Hard Disk Recorders.

Yes thanks, that's it :drinks: You cannot imagine how regularly I asked the question and only got blank looks...

250 MB would be quite enough to store atracs from 350 MDs. And give hope for a copious future. Not sure yet how best to copy them. Does yamaha support Atrac?
