frigate
I purchased an hi-md player, and I am looking at discs, how can I tell how much data the diffrent non 1gb discs hold?Like the 80 minutes, 74 minutes etc?Look at this page for instance, http://www.minidisco.com/Digital-Media/80-Minute-MiniDiscs I know some can hold 300mb or so, and others only 160, how do I tell em apart? THIS SUCKS
the 80 min discs hold 300mb when formatted in hi md mode. get those if you cant get the 1 gig discs.
raintheory
the ~160mb is just a figure stating how much audio (atrac) "data" the old (not Hi-MD formatted) discs held. When you format one of these same discs as Hi-MD it increases that to ~300mb or so. You have to format as Hi-MD to use the disc as actual data storage anyway, so even if it says 160 it'll be closer to 300mb when you actually store anything on them. Strungup
Alright thanks.I basically only use Regular MD's in HiMD mode on an 80 minute MD it breaks down to this.#1 PCM = ... not very long #2 HiMD SP = 2 and a half hours or so#3 HiMD LP = about 9 hours and 15 minutes First put the RH1 "Disc Mode" to HiMD , then insert a blank , hit the menu button go to "Edit-> format-> Format ok?->enter" That MD will be in HiMD mode You can just start recording if the RH1 is in HiMD mode but I have had a couple discs act funny , went back and formatted them in Hi and they worked fine aftewards
greenmachine
http://minidisc.org/hi-md_faq.html#_q93The 305 MB figure is for a reformatted 80 min MD, a reformatted 74 min MD will hold about 7-8 % less. You can re-format any standard MD to Hi-MD mode. Edited June 27, 2007 by greenmachine
