Ocelot
Long-time MD user here, just received an MZ-M200 for my birthday to replace my MZ-R700 whose headphone jack died (cost more to repair than get new, curse you Gods of MD Repair ) Using my old unit, I got into the habit of recording straight from CD using the optical line in, and am recalcitrant to change that method, especially with the evaluation that both SonicStage and Simple Burner's codecs don't result in as pleasing a sound. However, there is something for which I'd like to use SonicStage: titling tracks.Hence my (likely silly) question if one can title tracks already recorded to a Hi-MD disc using SonicStage. For some reason, I've built up the impression from a number of posts that it would be possible to do this. I'm not sure why...maybe I'm just dazed and confused from all the overtime I've been putting in at work. But for some reason I've got this idea that such might be possible.MDCF members are welcome to testify to the degree of my dazed state of mind and deep confusion by pimp slapping me if I am in error. Don't know if it'll help my overall state of mind, but it will at least let me know where I stand regarding titling my Hi-MD discs. And all the work I'll need to do in that regard. I await your feedback and/or punishment for such a ridiculous question -- Edited August 24, 2007 by Ocelot
A440
You really could give up realtime recording. For best sound quality (but only 90 minutes per Hi-MD disc) you could import your CDs to SonicStage as PCM and transfer the PCM to Hi-MD. CD quality, lossless. And if you were satisfied with the sound quality you got on the R700, you could also use SonicStage or SimpleBurner to transfer CDs to Hi-MD as Hi-SP. Just under 8 hours per disc, more than adequate sound quality. Titling--yes. Open Sonicstage. Put a disc in your MZ-M200 and connect via USB. A window should open on the right with all the tracks on the MD. Highlight one, click F2, and Rename to your heart's content.
bobt
Just use SS or Simple Burner, much easier, new versions of SS (3.4 and up work very well)WelcomeBob

CD quality, lossless.Yes, but recording in PCM would make for an awful lot of discs. Hi-SP sounds great with the bonus of space on a disc for more than a single CD (that's an 80 minute MD formatted for Hi-MD, btw--I have lots of Sony ES MD's to use).I know it's considered "old school" to use optical line in real-time recording, but it has a certain je ne sais quoi for me. And I usually do my recording overnight so I have a new disc to look forward to in the morning. My own MD idiosyncrasy, I suppose. Titling--yes. Open Sonicstage. Put a disc in your MZ-M200 and connect via USB. A window should open on the right with all the tracks on the MD. Highlight one, click F2, and Rename to your heart's content.Yay! Oh, you've made my month! Murphy's Law has been swinging for the fences with me lately, and it's sooooo nice to have something on the flip side. Thank you! It truly is the simple things in life that are the most encouraging --
A440
Well, I thought you were obsessing over sound quality. Your R700 was made even before the NetMD era, and things have gotten much easier for anyone who wants to use the MD as a player. You will get equally good results, much faster, by installing Simple Burner, and with a bonus: track names. Open Simple Burner, set it to encode at Hi-SP, connect the MD. Insert disc, let Simple Burner get track names, and transfer. It's all-digital, so it's as good as optical. And the titling is all done for you. Use the time you save to foment world peace. culp4684
Nothin' wrong with wanting to do recordings the old school way. After all, it's not like you have to sit there and watch the recording .As an alternative at the Hi-MD/SS end, try making your recordings at 352 kbps if you're concerned about sound quality. You can fit a little over 90 minutes on a standard disc.
