'cause I'm a gorgeous girl singer, who only expects gorgeous things around her. Good enough? No seriously, I've been chasing them for ages. I particularly want something easier to travel with and with the docking station it would be easier to read what's going on. I carry 2 rack mounted sony players, and have another one and a portable at home. One has just broken so I need two in my house for editing and all that. Saves me carrying things in and out of my garage every night after gig? (Single , defenceless woman out late, carrying equipment. Not right!) Plus they'd look really pretty with my new decor!!!!!Don't know the original price, let alone second hand. Of course I'd cover shipping if price of md is reasonable. No taking the mick! Ball in your court.
bobt
Like your reasoning, but have you thought of Hi-MD, the advantages of direct uploads, rather than real time are worth extra, the NH 700 can be bought relatively cheap, NH1's are actually going quite reasonable as well, and then there's the RH1 which would exemplify your gorgeousness (Is that a word??), good luck with whatever you can get, any examples of your singing around??Take care,Bob

A fellow musician , and ... without a pic posted we would have to reserve judgement on the Gorgeous thing , .... but with 2 Rackmount Sony's , and an editing station ( an example of MD being used as intended ,instead of some jogger beating the crap out of it) we CAN infer intelligence , hmmm interesting . Yes I like that big screen as well , easy to see . One of the things that make this unit hard to find , is that a lot of the components that are in it are the same components as the R50 , which is the Legend . Most Recording people who are into MD and steady users , as well as repair guys will all testify to that about the R50 . That was the Best one ever made, Quality ,durability, Audio quality , Mic preamp, . The 5ST Has alot of the same components in it . Here is the info for the 5ST http://minidisc.org/part_Sony_MZ-R5ST.html I get the feeling your not that defenseless, lol. Welcome to the MDCF , stick around and see what happens . By the way what are the symptoms of the one that "Broke" I know that the contacts of the docking station and the unit can get a little tarnished after a while or worn and that will cause it not to charge , or read discs, also starts skipping , a lot of funky things happen ( Mine did ) But after cleaning those contacts , purrs like a kitten. so if your experienceing those oddities maybe I can help by posting a pictorial step by step , to salvage the one you have first, and if that doesnt work , we can try to find another one. I knew it would be. So what do I have to do to make it mine?By the way, the broken one is a minidisc deck. (MDS-JE640). I promised I never dropped it. I don't even play 'damsel in distress' but staff or punters are always fighting to help dismantle my PA. I wish they wouldn't. I can do it much easier and quicker myself! They can carry it for me though... and in there lies the problem. I put in a disc, it got stuck. 'Maitenance Man' came to the rescue. Opened it up, retrieved it, but the discs won't go in at all now!Anyway, back to the player on offer! Would it be cheaper if I sent in a pic of me complete with shellsuit and legwarmers? I'd be forever in your debt!Actually I've been trying all night to upload a pic, but I keep getting 'contact board administrator' message. I'm Just A Bird Singer people! Thanks for info. Definitely check it out. Are they all walkmans though? Or can you get them in 'Deck' form? Gigging with walkmans ain't too clever. I need to be able to see the displays easily and quickly. Without some wannabe 'lighting engineer' (barman!) fussing with the lights! bobt
The RH1 is walkman, but with the RM403lk remote, and it's OLES on the side make it easy to see and adjust levels, and bonus, you can put it in your purse on the way home and listen to what you did.Onkyo make a Hi-MD deck, look in equipment reviews here on the forum, you would have to get it out of Japan though. If I were me I'd go with the RH1, but the 5 and 50 are neet looking units. Have fun on your quest!Bob
bobt
Was just thinking today (I know it's dangerous, but I do it once in a while), that going by your nom de plume, that you may be in Las Vegas, if so, too bad you didn't post 3 weeks ago, I could have hooked up my NH1 and shown you what it does, if you're not from Las Vegas then I'm just rantingTTFNBob

The Source is Strong with this one , Agree we do !Hey! Bird Singer Is Back! Yaaaaaay! I would like to say I've been on holiday, but the truth is I've been working like a 'cart horse' trying to pay for a new kitchen! Although, I have found time to purchase 5 md players and inherit another. I've managed to track down one MZ-R5ST, 3 MDS-S40's plus, a Denon DNM2300R Professional Dual MD Player! (All used) Not that I've received any of 'em yet !!!You must think I'm crazy? But it's impossible to buy md decks in Portugal. So I thought I'd get hold of as many as I can, sell them on, re-decorate my house with them, or store them up till the next one breaks. Actually, my 2nd deck has a dodgy output socket now, so unless I can find some big, hunky, sexy, six-packed man, and, someone else to take a look at it, I guess it's on it's way out aswell!Anyway, why I'm back, is (1) I miss you guys. (2) I'm so ready to learn. (3) The one I've inherited is a Pioneer MJ-D508. I told the owners of the bar I worked last night, I was buying up MD Decks, and they said "We've got one that's never been used." They wouldn't make a decision on whether to sell it, find someone else to sell it, or, even how much they wanted. So I told them I'd make the decision for them, and I'd just take it. Which I did! (With no complaints.) (Must have been the tight catsuit and the 5inch heeled boots that swung it!) They couldn't find the box, manual or remote. So does any one know about Pioneer and MD Decks? I can't find any info. (Probably just not looking hard enough!)Lastly, as I know this is a message board and not an essay board, what's the recommendation for a recording live? I know, 'bobt', you were talking about Hi MD, but I looked it up and didn't understand a word of what people were chatting about. Atrac, Flac...! I just want to push a button and sing!P.S's. Never been to Las Vegas. Just my 'I'm in a good mood', name. Bad moods, it's lozangst!'Bigging up' to Superbaldyguy, for Audiot recommendation. ThanxOh, and Mr Deane...Where've you been?Shlaters! bobt
Hi Dive, definitely the catsuit did it!!! The thing to remeber with Hi-MD, is that you are able to digitally upload it to your computer through the uSB cable at faster than real time, plus with a 1 Gig disc you can put more moosic on it. Reality is that they all record fine and if your are comfortable just listening, or recording realtime into the puter, thats fine too.We welcome you back to the board. didn't notice he Portugal tag, beautiful country.Happy days,Bob

Lorraine
Just to let you know, finally I'm athe proud owner of thr MZ-R5ST! It is exactly what I wanted. It's beautiful. Thanks for every one's help.I would still like another. If any one comes across one or has one to sell. The Denon is a pretty fine machine as well. The sony mds-s40, of which I somehow manageon to, over the past cod to win 4, are cute, and will make grat gifts to all the muso's that have helped me in the past. Now, with the Pioneer, I do have a conscience. I know I successfully confused the owners into letting me walk away with it. I certainly don't need 9 md decks so if I can make them some money for it, I'd be very happy. So, does anyone know, roughly, it's value? It's about 2-3 years old. Only ever used by me, to record about 5 tracks on to. I don't hold out much hope for them finding the box or remote. All quotes greatly received.LozCayman islands great, especially this one, 140 people, way laid back, close to Cuba, all good.As for recording, Hi-MD is simple, you can line in from your mixer, or many of the Mic recommendations in the recording section, and when you're done, easy upload into the puter, don't get confused about FLC and everything else, just save as WAV, then you can do what you want with it, send CD's to all your friends , demos to record companies, market your own, possibilities!!Have funBobApologies for spelling mistakes!
