Avrin
Let me start a new topic, since the solution is here, and it is a very simple one. Assume you have a clean machine.1. Download OpenMG Secure module 4.6 from http://dl1.aii.co.jp/contents/connect/_dat...openmgsetup.zip, unzip the file, and run setup.exe with a command line depending on your operating system language:setup.exe /v"OMGCOREINI=OmgCore_GA.ini" - for English (and presumably other European languages)setup.exe /v"OMGCOREINI=OmgCore_JP.ini" - for Japanesesetup.exe /v"OMGCOREINI=OmgCore_CN.ini" - for Chinesesetup.exe /v"OMGCOREINI=OmgCore_KO.ini" - for Korean2. Download PA Driver from http://dl1.aii.co.jp/contents/connect/_dat...r/pa_driver.zip, unzip the file, and run setup.exe. The driver is actually not needed if you are going to use Hi-MD mode only, but will help you avoid the "Unsafe Device Removal" message each time you disconnect your Hi-MD unit, or switch it to NetMD mode.3. Download MD Simple Burner from http://forums.minidisc.org/downloads/download.php?file=93, unzip the file and run setup.exe.4. Restart your computer.5. Enjoy an uncluttered and easy configuration, which allows you to download songs and to edit song-titles on the disc.MDSB may experience some crashes when you connect your device or switch it to a different mode for the first time, but this is only temporary. After all required drivers are installed, no more crashes should occur. Edited December 4, 2007 by Avrin
Avrin
Thanks!Further experiments show that SonicStage also does not need any drivers when working with devices in Hi-MD mode.

Avrin
Thanks! The whole thing about discovering that Hi-MD does not actually need any drivers may lead to a conclusion that the standard was initially planned as Drag'n'Drop. Just to think about what is lost!!!
jonnybiggs
Hi there, Not sure if anyone besides me is still using minidiscs, but I'll ask anyway I have been trying to install SimpleBurner without SonicStage, referring to this Forum and also [http://www.audiotstation.com/forum/showthread.php?t=10878&page=5] I am running a fast XP SP2 32bit machine and installed (in this order): latest(?) Sony PA Driver (4.0.100.1190) Extracted OpenMGSetup31.exe, then ran the following: \OpenMG_Setup\Setup.exe \LimitedPatch\OMGLP-02-10-22-01.exe \LimitedPatch\OMGLP-02-10-22-02.exe \LimitedPatch\OMGLP-02-10-23-01.exe Installed Sony uilib (latest from Sony Support for Hi-MD) Installed SimpleBurner 2.0.05.25150 Restarted my Computer When I restart SimpleBurner suffers a fatal error and needs to close and tells me to reboot my PC. If this doesn't solve the problem I should reinstall the software. I really like this method of install to work so I can use M3U2SB, so if anyone has ideas on what my error might be I would be extremely grateful! What also has me stumped is that about 18months ago I had SimpleBurner installed without any of this rigmarole and don't really understand what has changed..? sfbp
Avrin is the expert. I gave up and installed Sonic Stage over top of this and it started working. I wonder what happens if you now DEinstall Sonic Stage? Maybe MSI is smart enough to leave you the components you need? Stephen A couple more notes: 1. If "31" means MagicGate version 3.1 this is a valueless antique. You need to get one of the recent ones and they are contained in the post by Avrin. The issue is probably all related to the mandatory encryption and decryption which the audio data must undergo on its way to the final (unencrypted) destination on a NetMD, or (encrypted) destination on a HiMD. 2. (obviously) the links in his post (start of this thread) are out of date, simply because of the move from MDCF to SI.
jonnybiggs
Hi Stephen, Thanks for the reply and your advice 31 is indeed version 3.1 - I found 4.6 on the Sony esupport site, but it said that it was only for Vista Business so I didn't use it. The link in Avrin's post links to a Japanese site which I can't navigate, but it seems the file is not there anymore (which, from 1997 is completely understandable - I know that Hi-MD users are thin on the ground ) I haven't had SonicStage installed on this machine since its last ground up (operating system and complete format) renewal. So it's clean for the SimpleBurner stand alone install (when I can get it to work) I have now done a system restore to get rid of the remnants of this afternoon's failed install. Hopefully there's a SimpleSolution vers.1.0.1 (lol?)
Avrin
1. Remove everything related to SS/SB you have installed, including drivers. 2. Download http://sonicstage.update.sony.net/v4400/JP/download/installer/openmgsetup.zip , unzip it, then open the OmgCore.ini file using Notepad, and change it to look like this: [ReadWrite] Entry1 = 0x250001 Entry2 = 0x270001 Entry3 = 0x200100 [A2WConvert] Entry1=0x011D [Hi-MD PD Plug-in] AreaCode=2 [Atrac Audio Device PD Plug-in] CheckoutModel=1 AreaCode=2 [M.S.PRO PD Plug-in] CheckoutModel=1[/code] save the file, then run setup.exe to install OpenMG 5.0. 3. Download http://sonicstage.update.sony.net/v4400/JP/download/installer/pa_driver.zip , unzip it and run setup.exe to install the latest drivers. 4. Install SimpleBurner. 5. Download https://doors.gracenote.com/developer/update/Gracenote_CDDB_Update_Patch.exe and install it. 6. Restart your computer.
jonnybiggs
In the voice of Cartman: "Thet is soooo kew, yew guyz - Kick ass!" A textbook install, this time in 5 minutes! After 5 hours of trawling the net and doodling around with the other stuff I did this afternoon it is laughable how easy you made it Avrin! Thanks so much! So now I should be able to get a couple more years out of my minidisc player, by which time gapless playback wil be normal on all DAPs I'm actually grinning - really chuffed about this! Thanks again
