Looking for a unit to record and play class lectures, even if I sit in the back row of a large lecture hall.

Preferably with good battery power, using AAs, in addition to rechargeable, or just AAs.

Sort of a workhorse for voice recording. Any recommendations for approriate model nos. out there?

Thanks.

Do you intend to Upload to your computer or not .

If not the choices get much greater , and then You will find a cheaper route to take , If Uploading is needed , well the choices come down to 1 ( hmm not much choice there eh!)

so for AA's and non uploading , then it also would NOT need to be HiMD ,which then Hardoff here in Japan gets very interesting.

http://minidisc.org/equipment_browser.html

Browse that , then make a list of interesting models , post the choices , then you will get help.

You'll need a microphone to go with any minidisc player.

The only AA-battery units that upload are MZ-NH700 or MZ-NHF800.

Can you hear from the back of the lecture hall? Don't expect a recorder to magically enhance the sound. Certain microphones can help, but only up to a point.

Also look at the Samson Zoom H2, which might be more convenient for you: built-in mics, easier uploading.

Well, thanks, fellows. Your comments really clarified it.

Uploading would be for the purpose of burning a CD, which then I could play in the car and "study" while driving to work, but maybe another possibility is to play the actual recorder unit in the car on portable speakers. :scratchhead: ?

Portable speakers??? why not just use an FM transmitter (very cheap now) or the Cassette adapter ( if you car has cassette) or a lot of car systems come with Line input now , check to see if your does , then it is only a matter of hooking a cable for the Headphone/Line out ( depending on unit ) to the car system directly . ( Big sound now !!!) ........ and it WONT be an iPoood

Another recommendation for the Connects2 interface here!

They have add-on adapters for factory head units too I recall, so ASONWHD002 + this adapter if your car radio isn't a Sony.

Car Audio Plus UK has more details on this...

Well, should your car radio be a Sony? Is that better for MD?

If the car radio has an aux input you can use that or else a cassette adapter or FM transmitter works sort of as well.

Ebay has some good prices on Sony and other Car MD's, can get you a link for the connect package if you want to go that way.
