casuall002
I lost a whole concert recently because it automatically kicked the unit off when there was no audio feed (in between bands)I will only have access to the board before and after the show as the sound guy doesn't want people coming up there after every band. How can I turn the auto turn off feature OFF?Also, I need to use a 1gb disc and record for about 5-6 hours. I plan on usinging a fully charged battery, a new secondary battery and power supply. Do you see any problems?I have a Sony MZ-RH910
greenmachine
If you mean the auto track marking, it only happens when recording from the line-in and unfortunately cannot be turned off. But there is no lost audio. All you have to do is to recombine the tracks, either on the unit itself before uploading, via SonicStage or in a separate audio editor. Auto track marking is a known major annoyance for most live recordists.

I had fresh batteries and was using a standard disc. Any other thoughts? I have a show coming up and I'm really worried I'm going to mess this up. greenmachine
Never heard of such a feature. How long was the set and what kind of batteries were you using? Edited July 22, 2008 by greenmachine
raintheory
Use the power adapter to be extra sure, that would be my advice...These units only ever turn themselves off if they've reached the end of the disc or are nearing the end of their battery power (they are programmed to stop beforehand to be sure they have the battery power to write the TOC/System File)... The only other reason would be that there is something wrong with the unit itself. Not sure if excess vibration would cause an issue like this or not (usually it just results in skippy recordings). rayzray
is it possible that the sound guy turned it off either by mistake or on purpose ??why don't you do a dry run test by recording something for a long period and turning the sound off for a while - and see what happens - Edited July 22, 2008 by rayzray

Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't, probably depending on the battery type and condition. I've had better results with Alkalines (slow dropping voltage when in near empty state) than with rechargeables (particularly the supplied low capacity type - fast dropping voltage). Luckily these were tests only. You can easily lose hours of recording when the TOC fails to write. Unlike with analog gear, everything is lost and there's no TOC cloning possible in HiMD mode, so be careful.
