Sheriffharry
Hello,I have a SONY NW-E507 that I use daily on TWOdifferent computers. All was good and well with SonicStage 3.2.BUT, I had to update to SonicStage 3.4 to uploadlow bitrate mp3 files daily from the net. Now, my problem is that to use multiple computersI have to AUTHORIZE the device with Sony (...!).OK, so be it.On one computer all is well. But on the other (both are laptop running Windows XPin Canada), I cannot access to any authoriza menuon the Device/media info (only shows free space on the"empty" device. Authorizing is not "greyed out" it is NOT there)So, my question is:How can you authorize a device when SonicStage 3.4does not offer you to authorize a device ???Of course, if the device is only authorized on ONE computerI'll to empty it all EACH time I change computer.Which is, at least, very cumbersome...??? Sheriffharry
In SonicStage version 3.3 and up if your device is not"authorized" and you connect it to ANOTHER computer, you have to ERASE ALL the files on your walkman beforeuploading anything on it from the second computer.Sounds stupid right ?Well, that's how it is!!!Now I'm ready to go along with this "authorizing" business(my files are legit and I don't 'share' them), but on onecomputer SonicStage 3.4 DOES NOT offer me to "authorize"my device. Both computer have the same SonicStage 3.4and the same operating system, Windows XP.What can I do then?
madleet3
u cant go back to the lower version of SS?not sure about SS 3.4 got anyway to fix as i am aslo a new user of SS too as i just got my e507 so i am curious toosine u r using mp3 why not try the mp3manager in here?for upload and transfer back?or maybe wait for someone more guru's to help http://www.atraclife.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=121http://www.atraclife.com/forums/index.php?showforum=

Ishiyoshi
@ Sheriffharry: the other thread has been deleted. Please do not double post topic. But on the other (both are laptop running Windows XPin Canada), I cannot access to any authoriza menuon the Device/media info (only shows free space on the"empty" device. Authorizing is not "greyed out" it is NOT there)So, my question is:How can you authorize a device when SonicStage 3.4does not offer you to authorize a device ???Of course, if the device is only authorized on ONE computerI'll to empty it all EACH time I change computer.Which is, at least, very cumbersome...Try reinstalling your copy of SonicStage 3.4 using the Asia-Pacific version. This version along with the Japanese version does not require device authorization.
Sheriffharry
The Canadian version ask for erasing all files on the walkmanwhen I plug it on my second computer(and "authorizing" is impossible from Canada, by the way).Same for the Asia-Pacific version.Even the all-in-one version (without "Net download") SonicStagedoes the same.SONY Canada help feedback (very quickly) sent me a link to "How to authorize on Connect" ignoring completelymy comment that it is impossible to do so from Canada. It's bad.Very bad.I guess I'll have to live with MP3FileManager andan MP3 conversion tool for the MPEG2 22 kHz files. That's bad.How can Sony expect ANYONE to buy another mp3 reader from them after all that abuse ????Beats me. I have always used the Japanese version for obvious reason and never once encountered initialization request. For your convenience, I have edited the web installer to run on non-Japanese system --> click here for the attachment.
Fraser
Last resort is to install SonicStage 3.4 of Japanese version. I have always used the Japanese version for obvious reason and never once encountered initialization request. For your convenience, I have edited the web installer to run on non-Japanese system --> click here for the attachment.I've just done this after suggestions in this post. However, I can't read Kanji, so using the application is a bit hit and miss. Does your altered installer result in an English language install, or is it just the configSS.ini language tweak that I've already done? I know how to add English support into the installer, but not the app itself.

Does your altered installer result in an English language install, or is it just the configSS.ini language tweak that I've already done? I know how to add English support into the installer, but not the app itself. That's just the .ini tweak. One will need to further apply the appropriate registry edit as I have outlined in this guide: "Titling ATRAC Files In Japanese/Chinese/Korean, ... using non-Japanese SonicStage 3.x" to ensure that the UI display Japanese texts as it should. Of course, if one is not fluent in Japanese the Asia-Pacific version of SonicStage would be the best choice to avoid the initialization request. Many users have reported success with the Asia-Pacific version. However, the author of this thread is not having much luck thus far.
maxthrusters
Here's my solution:Uninstall SonicStage from the PC requiring "authorization". Reboot. Uninstall OpenMG Secure Module/OpenMG Limited Patch. Reboot as directed. Delete any SonicStage folders in C:\Program Files. Do not delete folders in C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\ as this is where your ATRAC files are.Advanced: Use a registry fixer program (I use CrapCleaner, google it) to scan registry for invalid entries. Don't mess with windows registry without knowing what you are doing though!Download and install the Canadian version of SonicStage 3.4 and re-import your files. DONE!Good luck! Sheriffharry
Hello,Just a quick update on using a NW-E507on TWO computers with SonicStage 3.4.I've worked on it for 3 days solid but finally got aa solution: I found a completely WEB-FREE SonicStageall-in-one file 40 Megs installer (from a board dedicatedto Sony midi-disk if I remember correctly, sorry I don't have the link anymore). And since even that installer wanted to access the net for some reason, I unplugmy modem during installation!Result: I can use my walkman on my two computerswith having to "erase it all" when I switch computer. And without, obviously since I'm in Canada, havingto "authorize" anything with the Connect Store.Only "scare" I had recently: the dreaded "erase allfiles in your device" appeared on one of the computeronce for no obvious reason, but, ouf!!!, restarting SonicStage made it go away! Plugging my walkmanto my computers is now a great source of thrill everytime:"Will it work this time ??", scarier than ANY roller-coasterride I've experienced. All that said, I am very happy with SS 3.4, and havingplayed with iTunes recently, I like the way it managetracks better. + the walkman itself is perfect engineering.Just my 2 cents.End of the "two computers" saga!SHarry
