sashcat
Hi I've just bought an MZ-NH700 from ebay, it did not come with a USB cable or a rechargeable battery.I've looked through the forums here and it seems that I need a USB Type A Connector to a standard USB Mini B Connector. However looking on ebay there are 2 types of USB Mini B, a 4 pin type and a 5 pin type.Which one should I buy? Also I'd like to buy a rechargeable battery for my MZ-NH700.In the minidisc.org browser it says "Rechargeable NiMH AA formfactor battery (NH-7WMAA)"I can't find any NH-7WMAA, so I was wondering which rechargable battery to buy?I look forwards to your help, and using my MZ-NH700 Edited September 5, 2008 by sashcat
rosjos
There are better AA rechargeables that those issued with the player, and you can pick these up almost anywhere (try your local supermarket). The USB cable is not that uncommon, with several devices using the same mini plug - I would try somewhere like PC World, Curry's or the like (if you live in the UK!). rosjos
So basically buy any AA rechargable battery in the shop? On ebay there are 2 types of USB Mini B, a 4 pin type and a 5 pin type.Which one should I buy? Please accept my apologies, I never read your post correctly...These ones on ebay will do the job: -http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/USB-2-0-Cable-For-So...id=p3286.c0.m14and...http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/USB-Cable-Lead-For-S...id=p3286.c0.m14Any AA battery will do, but I actually use Sony branded, non-Walkman, rechargeable AA's which seem to offer better battery life. These same batteries also last longer than the supplied AA's in my Sony Cybershot digital camera.

greenmachine
When I look inside my NH700's jack, there are five pins. I'm using a generic 5 pin MiniB cable without any problems. Not sure which type originally came with the unit.
sfbp
I honestly don't think it matters. They claim in both ads that it works. If you want 2.0 (only some units work 2.0 speeds) it might make a difference. Then again, it might not.Good luck
greenmachine
I don't think it would make a difference either. Why are there 5 pins in the first place since there are only four at the thicker PC end of the cable? Additional ground? Some weird processing inside the cable? Anyone got more insight on this? Avrin
All USB cables that came with my units have 5 pins at the mini end. The cable from my camcorder, which I am actually using with my Hi-MD units, also has 5 pins there. And here's the pinout: http://www.connections-usa.com/usb_pinout.html. sashcat
Thanks everyone From the pinout diagram (of the mini a and mini b connectors) it does look like there are 5 actual pins but only 4 are in use.I now have 4 good sony batteries and a good usb cable on order
