Strungup
and he says "Years ago, when MiniDisc came out, I was really interested in that format, and so I did tests: I ran a Fast Fourier Transform and recorded 30 seconds of the flat master vs. going through the [sony] ATRAC codec that the MiniDisc used and subtracted them, and it was just a flat line. In other words, the codec, over a period of time, didn’t really add any particular frequency" Flat line Baby ........ nothing added , nothing taken away .......... Pass the wine please ! tekdroid
Flat line Baby ........ nothing added , nothing taken away .......... Pass the wine please !True, frequency response is important, but tells us nothing about what lossy audio algorithms can do in other areas to degrade the sound. DCC was far better than MiniDisc in the early 90s as far as sound quality goes. A bit unfair 'cause Philips waited a while to release portables, which were really developed by Matsushita. But they knew their stuff as far as lossy codecs go.
