Greetings Minidiscers!

Hi Everybody! This is my first post on the minidisc forum. What a great resource it is! (and please forgive me if I've posted this in the wrong place!)

I have a MZ-NH1 Hi-MD that I use for recording my singing lessons. I then use Sonic Stage to burn to CD that I then listen to in the car.

I've found an Alpine MDM-7741 Car MD deck for a reasonable price. I have a similar Alpine unit to this in my car now (but with the cassette player instead of the minidisc). This is the unit:

My question is whether this will play discs recorded by my H-MD unit?

Many thanks in advance!

John

You will probably have to record your MD's is SP mode, did that o quite a few discs till I got my connect unit for my Sony. If it has an aux input jack you could also just plug the NH1 into it

Thanks guys for the responses. I'm still a bit confused - am I getting it right t say that the Alpine unit should probably play H-MD discs if they're recorded on SP? Has anybody tried this?

Many thanks in advance!

Cheers,

John

Absolutely no way. Standard disks can be recorded using HiMD, and played back on a HiMD unit. However the specifically HiMD disks (1GB capacity) cannot be formatted or read by an SP player. They're physically different.

If you inherit a standard (60,74,80) disk with HiMD music on it, it can be erased and reformatted as SP quite easily. And most if not all HiMD units such as your NH1 will record in SP.
