how to digitally copy old MDs to computer

I have hundreds of old MDs that I made in 1990. Some are digital copies of a digital source, and some are from an analog source. Now I want to transfer them to my computer (currently a 64-bit PC running Vista, although I would buy another computer if that will make it easier).

I bought a SONY MZ-NH600D Hi-MD Walkman. Although it will transfer from MD to computer, apparently the walkman will only transfer those tracks which were originally recorded to the MD from that same computer. But all my MDs were originally recorded to MD via old Sony MD decks (like the MDS JE-S550??).

What equipment or software can I get to make this happen easily and digitally?

Thnx

Yes, the RH1/M200 is the only unit that allows uploading legacy SP recordings without any quality loss and faster than realtime (about 10 minutes per full disc on a relatively modern PC). And don't forget that by default SonicStage converts legacy uploads to another lossy format (ATRAC3plus @ 256 kbit/s), which you will certainly wish to avoid. To do so, set SonicStage to upload in PCM.

Sorry...I just have to ask. How did you make all those MD's back in 1990? Didn't MD first appear in 1992? Actually, I think it was at least a year or two after that before it was seen in the U.S.

Hey Culp , yeah , it was actually a hidden release to the US , first couple of them went to Sony Stores in the US , one of them I had a Guitar student at , in Fact I believe I was one of the first people in the US to actually hear an MD , as that , the day they got it in , My Student was practically jumping up and down , " Dude you absolutely have to get one of these " He recorded me on it , and played it back for me , It was a turning point in life . That was Late 1991 , just before any of the US stores got them , This particular was in Monterey Cali. And the Owner was Japanese , and had worked for Sony Directly , so it was an Inside gig so to speak .

After that mid 1992 was the general release to the US , and the rest of the world .

so I think when Chrispettit is saying 1990 he is probably generalizing , and that would depend on how old he is .

If he is a teenager , then he is just well we wont go there ,...... if he is as old as I am , then we forget dates , and play horsehoes ( Close is good enough )

The MZ-1 .......... Sony PLEASE , PlEASE just make one more , for the fanatics like us , a HiMD MZ-1

What a ride , the past 17 years have been , I have been with my wife just a hair longer than I have with Md

That is perspective .

Yeah T.C. I agree with that, and while they are at it, don't forget about the Optical out jack that the original MZ-1 had. And how about a Pro Hi-MD deck (and with NO SCMS at that) as well.

Ironically enough, I myself got an MZ-1 about 2-3 years ago (for 70 bucks on eBay along with the AC power adapter and case only, the record button was broken on it, but can be fixed with another slide control) and use it onstage for shows as gangsta rapper AK47. It also makes a great tabletop DJ deck as well for those of us artists who don't want to lug a rack unit around with us every show.
