Looking for a certain Sony NetMD model

Are you talking about the "Virtual Sound" preset feature? How does that work exactly--the manual doesn't go into that much detail. Is the "V-SUR C (Club)" setting more or less what he's looking for? (i.e. bass boost?) In combination with the "Heavy" equalizer setting, I guess?

Probably the N910.

FYI, if you're looking specifically for "Digital Mega Bass", there is no such animal that meets your other criteria. The last non-HiMD unit to have such a feature (with line-in) was the G755 and it is not NetMD capable.

Chris already has the PSDN430. It has NetMD and megabass. As does the 510,610. The 710 and 810 are more like the 910, but they do have the disadvantage of using NiMH gumstick.

It doesn't say it has Megabass, but it sounds like it. I need to know the exact NetMD unit model that has all the features I described above. Thanks.

Call Sony. As we've said already, what you ask for doesn't exist. You can get bass enhancement, but not "megabass" enhancement. You just have to be willing to tweak the equalizer settings.

Are you saying that no NetMD has optical input or bass function?

No, I'm saying that no NetMD unit has optical input AND "bass function" as you define it (see the word "AND"). There are NetMD units with optical input and equalizer settings which can enhance bass--but if you are looking for a NetMD unit with optical in AND a special bass enhancement circuit such as "digital megabass", then yes, I am saying there is no such NetMD unit.

Well.... not quite true. The (trademarked?) MegaBass goes back to when there were just 3 settings for tone control - Regular, 1 and 2. All the above mentioned before the multi-band equalizer (sound engine?) have this. My pre-MDLP R91 has it. The B10 has it, surprisingly, but of course no USB.

I just looked at the MZ-DN430 (why isn't that one in the equipment browser, folks? I did comment on this earlier) manual at http://www.docs.sony.com/release/MZDN430.pdf.

It seems you can change the bass and treble "just like an old fashioned radio". There are a couple of presets, which I am betting come all ready to roll.

Chris, what exactly are you looking for? The megabass is surely just some preset, no?

The headunits (eg my GT510) have something called DSO (Dynamic Soundstage Organizer) but that has more to do with inducing a shift in apparent sound placement, particularly in a vehicle.

By the way, I just got my RM-MC40ELK 3-line remotes. Maybe this is what you need. They have a button that lets you cycle through the different equalizer presets--easy-peasy. If you need a special preset that maxes out bass, most units have a couple of user customizable slots.

Upon further examination, that button (Sound/Sound Set) with single presses just toggles between the different enhancement modes, at least on the RH1:

Normal, V-Surround, Equalizer, and Volume Normaliser

After selecting one of these then to access the different presets of a particular mode (if it has presets) you press the button again and hold for 2 seconds--then you can switch between presets using the jog dial. Still, pretty easy.
