Tom in RI
I have gotten a headache trying to read and get a handle on how to use Sonic Stage (I guess I am not alone there). My question is, once I have written some music to minidisc through SS, how do I remove tracks? As I understand it, the tracks need to still be on the computer where they came from. If they are erased from the computer can they be reripped to satisfy SS? Is the process any different with HiMD (I have an MZ-NH600D and an MZ-M100). Have I got this right that SS limits you to 3 moves with a particular track? Does it make any difference if their is no DRM in the track. If anyone can point me to threads that address the check in check out process I would appreciate it. sfbp
I think you need to look at the file properties of each item in My Library (of SonicStage). This will tell you the transfer count.I have a pretty strong idea that yours will always be infinite. This all goes back to badder, earlier days when people couldn't be trusted
Avrin
All transfer limitations for Hi-MD have been lifted since, IIRC, SonicStage 3.4. Provided that you rip tracks from CDs without applying copy protection, you can do whatever you want with these tracks. The only unpleasant thing remaining is copy protection applied to all tracks uploaded from units. But you can remove the protection as soon as you have finished uploading, using the SonicStage File Conversion Tool. And it is a good idea to do so, since the authentication server (needed to reauthenticate copy-protected tracks in case your keys are damaged) can no longer be relied upon, as it is presumably down from the begining of this year (despite some cases of successful authentication by several members lately). Tom in RI
What really prompted my post was a situation I had where I had moved some live recordings onto a disc as LP2 on an MZ-NF610. I figured I would be able to play back on both the two HiMD and two other units I own. Without giving a thought I deleted the wav files from my computer. Later, I tried to erase the tracks on the 610, got a message that I couldn't. Then when I hooked back up to the computer I found that since the tracks were no longer on the computer I couldn't remove them from the disc. Can I get around that by putting the tracks back on the computer; or, by trying to erase them with a more recent player?
sfbp
You will have better luck the OLDER the player. It's possible to title (and, I presume, erase) LP tracks with an SP-only deck. I have never tried with my R91 which is my only SP-only portable, but I bet any pre-NetMD unit will be just fine. Also you could format (initialize) the disk. Sonic Stage complains but will finally let you do it, I think. Someone else confirm?Sonic Stage is just trying to be helpful, blast it. THIS SUCKS
you can delete the tracks from the disk when the unit is hooked up to the computer just make sure the write protect tab is set to the record position but before you do you must understand that the recordings will be lost forever. if you need to keep them upload using the headphone analog output hooked to your soundcard input. Tom in RI
Well, I was able to erase the disc with my MZ-M100. Whole Lot, when you say the recordings will be lost forever, I have more than one laptop with SS on. While I am not planning on it, I assume I could import any of the tracks on a different laptop and dl to minidisc again, yes?In any event, if I dl tracks to MD and don't delete them from the computer will I be able to remove them from the MD using SS without any restriction? THIS SUCKS
ss can always delete any tracks as long as the disk is not a pre recorded md. i said they were lost forever because none of the unit types will upload tracks that were downloaded from ss. they are stuck on the disk! the disk can be deleted but not uploaded.
