Giant_Rick
Hi guys, I've bought a Sony MZ N505.I will hack it to add extra features, and I need one of these remotes:RM-MC11ELRM-MC10LRM-MC12ELKI don't mind about conditions, it only have to work; I want the remote only for hacking the unit.Fair prices please..I will buy only from European countries as I live in Italy and we have a very slow postal service.I will check eBay every day.. but if someone has something to offer, feel free to do.I pay only via PayPal (tough it can take some days to charge it at the local postal office).Thank you! sfbp
Won't an RM-MC-38EL work with this unit? I am listening to it on that as we speak....... Or is there something special about the earlier remotes needed for hacking???? I don't have the page with the N505 directions on it to hand, can you remind me with a link?If you are getting the skipping key problem, I found that a good clean of all the electronics in the lid did wonders. You have to dismount the little circuit board, from the lid, of course.
Abby Normal
I keep this page bookmarked:http://esupport.sony.com/US/perl/select-system.pltype in the model without dashes, click submit, click manuals-specs-warranty, click operating instructions. Some models (rarely) force me here:http://www.sony-asia.com/section/manualsAlso remember that sometimes models have extra letters or numbers designating a specific configuration. If the search fails, try leaving off anything trailing after the numbers.
sfbp
huh?I have never found service manuals there.Installation, yupOperating instrs, yupBut sure enough the procedure is in the manual we have posted here. Duh! However what I was really looking for was the page here with the details of how to hack a BUNCH of different MD's including the 505. I even have it printed out here somewhere.... time to clean up my office.
Abby Normal
You're right--but I hadn't realized you were asking for the service manual. Heh.
sfbp
I found the reference (I knew it was here, just couldnt see it earlier) athttp://www.minidisc.org/mzr700_to_mzr900.htmlI think the only thing you need that particular remote for is the DPC and tone control settings. I have seen both of these working on the N910 which you are effectively upgrading to, so I would think perhaps they will work with a few more remotes than are listed. You don't have to have the remote to enter service mode - the manual shows 2 ways of getting in, one of which is just like all the other units, in that you can use just the buttons on the main unit.Addendum: I just tried it, using the RM-MC38EL. However there are some differences in button assignments after the "upgrade"1. You can still only get at group forward/back by putting into group mode by first pressing the group button, then forward or back. However holding pmode on the remote for 2 seconds has the same effect as the group button on the main unit.2. Group "-" button on the remote is now equivalent to pause3. Group "+" button on the remote is now equivalent to what normally happens when you press and hold the pmode button, ie repeat is turned on/offI notice the VU-meter bar along the top, don't think that was there before (no I am not putting it back specially to check). The only thing missing is DPC. However from my experience with the N910 I assure you this feature is grossly overrated. Maybe for speech but for music it sounds pretty horrible. As you know it alters speed while maintaining the pitch. The trick that some decks have of allowing you to actually alter the pitch and speed (both) seems much more useful (to me at least).Sounds like those "extras" are available if you had the older remote. But otherwise it looks ok to me.
Giant_Rick
I want to hack the unit basically for the Digital Pitch Control -- I use it on my NH900 to transcribe music.I also want to have a Digital Out for connecting it to my stereo.I have the RM-MC38EL remote and I'll try it when I have the N505.. even if DPC will be missing.Thank you for your your advices guys!C'mon, still lookin' for one of the remotes listed in the first post. And thank you for editing the title. I thought that adding 'ISO' would be uncomprensible.. sorry. Didn't know we use it here as well. sfbp
I'm sure that the DPC works great on the NH900. However on the N910 (which comes before the NH900 but after the N505) it does not work great, IMO.I'm intrigued by the idea of hacking a portable for digital out. Can you give me a reference possibly?
sfbp
Just in case you missed it, I figured out how to use the hacked N505 with the commonly available RM-MC38EL. The secret is the Group+ key.
