nrand
I want something for my home studio for a few specialist applications and thought I would look at one of these or similar that is likely to last a while. Are there significant differences in the quality of these units? Anything to watch for?
aixporter
based on brand, Sony has the habit of bringing their top of the line audiophile products through Denon, so I would go for that

PhilippeC
This Tascam machine is still in production, does it ? Is it also the case of the Denon machine ? I have a Sony MDS-B5 : SP only. My DIN coaxial recording is not working properly but I bought it only 140$ (4000$ end 90's) in France. Not so important for me because I use my Sony MZ-N510 Net-MD and my Hi-MD recorder machines - with Atrac DSP type R for recording. I see that there are other ones (more expensive) on e-Bay US. So considering the price for a machine workinh quite perfectly, a NEW machine like Tascam is better for you. The dynamic of the MDS-B5 listening is incredible even comparing with an Sony MZ-RH1. I am so sorry not to be able to compare the recording capatibily of this non type R machine. equipments on www.minidisc.org Curiosity : what are your specialist applications ? nrand
Curiosity : what are your specialist applications ? Thanks - I had heard that the Pro Sony machines are pretty amazing - I am just not sure if the Tascam sound quality will match the Sony, or the Denon - which also seems quite promising. The main use of this unit would be as a mix down unit in my home studio for recorded programs I prepare for my church. We open each Wednesday for people to drop in for a bit of time out. Some programming will be straight classical/choral and sometimes I like to mix nature sounds in with classical music given we are in an urban setting. http://www.claytonwesley.org.au/ see my details under 'contacts' I have an Onkyo MD-185X, Sony MZ R700, a couple of CD players and audio cassette etc I can run through a Mackie 1202 VLZ 3 onto the minidisc. I just like the MD format for this kind of thing. For recording and composing I use a Mac Pro with Logic Studio and Sibelius 5.
nrand
In the end I went with e Denon as far as I can tell it is still rated as industry standard and extremely well made. I will feed back as soon as I have play with it.

nrand
I have a Grace Baptist church (Hội Thánh Báp-Tít Ân Điển, Nguyễn Văn Trỗi - Phú Nhuận - Tp HCM) close to my house in Saigon (Vietnam). Look like more a modern building than a church... Never come there, I am catholic like my vietnamese wife. Cool, My wife is Catholic too - her church is across the street from mine - but their steeple is not as pointy as ours
