nrand
The stock Sony earphones are pretty good but I am wondering about what is available that I have not tried. Sports models included. What do you like the best?
darrencouch
Honestly- I bought a pair of Philips headphones for ten bucks at Rite-Aid that were behind the head "sports" models. The cord is encased in nylon mesh which makes it tangle resistant. They sound superb-much better than my older son's 60 dollar "skullcandy" ones. jmsla
Grado model SR 60i or SR 90i for me. And when needed in a noisy environment I boost the volume with a FiiO E6 Headphone Amplifier- (1.5x1.75x.25 inches and practically weightless). Giant_Rick
I have a pair of cheap AKG that I use when I'm not at home.. Honestly if you're in a noisy place (on a bus, on a train, ...) it doesn't make sense to have a good pair of earphones as the place is not comfortable for listening. And boosting the volume is not a good thing.. it can damage your hearing. The noise is so high that you start to listen to music at a volume very high, the same volume that would make you sick in a quiet place I'd buy a pair of good 'phones if I have to listen to music at home, in a silent room. My 2 cents.

My 2 cents. Point well made and taken. Thanks for the caution. I do try to be cognizent of using too much volume in a very noisy environment. Really though the amp. is because the Grados are a bit ineffecient and I don't set very high recording levels when I make an analog or optic line in recording...23 at most. And for me listening to music during my subway commutes is always better than not listening. Like even a bad day of sking is still way better than a great day at the office. -J

The point is that people want a sound like they were alone at home in a silent room.. if you want this, then please stay in alone at home in a silent room. In a subway you'll never reach this quality; and the more you turn up the volume, the more you damage your ears, which are a perfect machine that needs lots of attention. oldskoold
For price & quality it's got to be the Sennheiser CX300.
