Old Sony mini disc recorder

Hello,

A friend of mine had given me a Sony Mini disc recorder (Walkman) about 5 years ago. In 2006, I was burglarized and the Mini disc player/recorder was taken. I borrowed someone else's Sony disc player recently, but it does not play LP. I need to buy a new Mini disc recorder to get this digital info onto my computer, however, I need to make sure that it can play LP. Unfortunately, I wouldn't mind purchasing a used player because I have little funds at the moment. Anyone know of a particular model that would work for me? I don't remember the model # of the Sony Walkman I had prior to the burglary.

You have two options, either something like the NH-700 which will play pretty well anything, and record in real time into your computer, or an RH1/M200, which will transfer pretty well anything digitally, unfortunately thet's pretty well all that you can do

Look on Ebay. There are some second hand models going at a resonable price.

Before you rush out... let me add a voice in chorus to bobt's comment. If you have lots of recordings you made "from before", you have basically one option, the RH1 (also known as M200 by the magic addition of a microphone which is a separate, duh!).

There's another way, a (second-hand) MDLP-capable deck with optical out, if you want to preserve the digital nature of your LP recordings. Common models (and there some much more expensive alternatives) include MDS-JE640, MDS-JB940,MXD-D400, MDS-JB980 (not available in US/Canada) and possibly some others. However this route means you have to do it at x1 playback speed, reliable but time consuming.

If you want to make recordings "now and in the future", the NH700 (also not available in North America, however it is somewhat easier to get a wall charger for it which is all you need in this case) is an ideal portable to record and upload, provided you stick to HiMD format. Actually any HiMD model will have the same record-then-upload capabilities. Look for something with an H in the name but no D in the name. Then look to make sure it has microphone or line input if that's what you need.

If I understood what you're asking, you need a MDLP unit. That's the cheapest way.

You playback the MD and you connect the unit to the PC with a stereo cable (from phone in of the MD player thru line in of the PC), this is the cheapest way but the ''worst quality'' of all. Basically any MDLP/NetMD/Hi-MD unit will do the trick.

An upgrade would be using a digital out (MD) thru a digital in (PC); another step up would be using a device with Type-S playback (like the N510).

The best would be using an RH1, but you're out of money, so..
