Wanted to rent for transfers- MZ-RH1 or equivalent

I'm interested in transferring my old MiniDisk library (non-HD) onto hard drives for archiving. I'd like to rent a MZ-RH1 or similar model to do the transfer digitally instead of analog.

Anyone, especially in the Chicago area, want to rent an RH1 or equivalent for a week or so? No recording, just playing for transfer.

Shipping at my expense by FedEx-

Thanks,

tomod

I agree, I would rather receive your MD collection and some thumb drives or blank CDs than send my exprnsive, rather delicate and soon to be irreplaceable RH1 off to an unknown entity, no disrespect intended. Just out of curiosity, exactly how many discs comprise your library?

I understand your concern- I would be as cautious. My collection is entirely location audio from video shoots. I would be very nervous shipping my discs.

That's why I'm hoping that someone in the Chicago or Indianapolis area will reply. We could do this in person.

Well, good luck to you. I hope someone local agrees to help you out.

Something to consider, however, and the reason I was asking how many discs are involved in this project, is that any owner of an RH1 may be reluctant to subject their machine to the wear and tear to up-load someone else's collection.

Have you considered purchasing your own RH1 or M200? Used units are available on E-Bay and Craigslist.

Is the RH1 the only model that will do digital transfers from minidiscs?

Yep. Sony finally permitted those locked into MD an exit strategy.

You don't want to hear *my* story. I refused to buy a portable (except for an MZ-NE410 which I quickly rumbled) because I there was no way to get things out of it until the RH1 was released. Before that I could play back into computer from the optical out of a deck. But my original purpose was digital encoding starting from analog hi-fi. The opposite to most customers of Sony who wanted fast downloads of stuff that was already digital.

My recommendation, get an MDLP deck with optical out and at least do the transfer digitally. Even if you have "only" a laptop you can buy for $20 a USB audio device which does optical input and output.

Hope this helps.
