0 JSP62
I have a UK A3000, can I download the US / Japanese versions of the software / firmware or will I have to wait for the european versions?Best to go with the JAP version. Ishi has always suggested using this version, due to being the least problematic when using your DAP (i.e. The infamous SS can't play errors).I believe I had installed 3.4 JAP version that was modified. Do a search in this forum or the downloads section for more info.

0 chriswyatt
By the way, you can go ahead and download the firmware from Sony Japan, I don't think the firmware is regional. When you upgrade the firmware the language will remain English but you might have to reconfigure your sound settings (I did for some reason). If you don't use the Connect download service you could probably go ahead and download the US version.

At last - intelligent shuffle, time machine mode, artist link etc!

0 Marquis79
Hello,i´ve got a question. SS 4.0 is fast, that is good. But I´m wondering by the view options. It is correct that there are only two options to browse to the songs on the device, by playlist and by album sort by artist? That is poor, why there is no option to browse by title, by artist and so on?If you look for a song and don´t have name the album correct its very difficult to find it.best regardsMarquis

0 Beethovenian
Does anybody else notice a difference in performance when using SonicStage or Connect to load the player? To me, navigation is much slower now that I retransferred everything via SS4. I had that impression before, when used SS3.4, but wasn't sure about it. Now, it's very clear. When I select long lists, it often needs to access the hard-drive just to go to the next page, when browsing horizontally. The All songs menu become impossible to use, since it takes about 3 or 4 seconds just to go from the A to the B column. What could be the cause for that? I even reloaded the firmware to see if that would help. I'll probably end up going back to Connect Player just for transfers to the player.Ah, and why doesn't Sony make the artist link information obtained in Connect Player available for SonicStage, and vice versa? The navigation was fluent, i have never seen my A3000 like that. Then, with this great new firmware, I have installed the new Sonic Stage CP. But this soft didn't recognize the library of CP, so I had to erase all tracks from the A3000, import my tracks into SS4.0, and transfer it to the A3000. After that, the A3000 became very slow: when browsing in "Artist", it takes 2s to change the letter, and it is even slower to browse artist names in a letter...I'm a little bit angry with that... My A3000 became slower than with firmware 2.

0 Nick Van Howen
So, I initialize my A3000 (again ) and made the transfer with Connect Player this time and:- browsing on the A3000 is faster again- it takes 32min for 2053songs/11Go (more than an hour with SS4)I also have noticed a little thing with CP: when the transfer is complete, it performs an action that I didn't see in SS: "Mise à jour de la base de données du périphérique" (Sorry, I'm french, but it must be "Updating the device database" or something like that in the english version I think...). It takes 5 or 6 min, and maybe this is in fact some kind of optimization of the database...? Something not featured in SonicStage...Finally, I will keep Connect Player for some time... with SS, the A3000 is so slow that it became almost unusable
0 Beethovenian
SS4 became a nightmare for me. Since it makes my A3000 extremely slow, I initiallized the drive to use Connect again. But Connect is now unable to transfer to it. It just stays there, doing nothing. So I uninstalled e reinstalled Connect, tried to restore the computer to an earlier stage etc. Everything remained the same. And now my computer is messy. So much for an improved software. Now I have an useless player and a computer in serious need of a clean-up.
0 micks_address
Hi Guys,Quick question, i want to update artist link information on my wifes nwa1000, we hadnt been using connect and all our cd's were imported using sonic stage 3.4, i own a hd5h. Question is how can you update the artist link info? I have tried Getting more cd info but i get a messaage saying there's no internet connection available, even though gracenote works fine when importing cds... Any help appreciated, i know artist link probably not much use, but its a shame to have a shiny button there not working on her player....Cheers,Mick

0 ad2006
Does anybody know if this is right? Would i be right in thinking that ss4.0 does not update your playing history and top 100? Not bothered about that first one but dont you need the top 100 for shuffling favorites. Also is there a difference betweeen europe and us release? 0 ad2006
To get the artist link to work you need to have to be hooked up the the internet and ask it to get the cd info. It asked to do this the first time I logged in. Also I noticed the date format has changed which is why I didn't think it updated itself. Old enties are logged as 2006/5 for May now they are 2006/05 the extra zero means there are now 2 lists.

0 Beethovenian
So after a long fight, uninstalling and reinstalling everything, I finally managed to load music again on my A3000 using Connect Player. The difference is amazing. The player's navigation is much faster. That only shows how Sony is not realizing that people may have big music libraries. Their products have clearly a hard time managing thousands of tracks. CP is very fast to transfer the first 5 or 6GB, but it gets progressively slower and buggier later. SonicStage 4 has the same problem, with the additional problem of not optimizing the library in the player (how the Sony coders were able to do that with a later, and late, software, I don't know). Their products have clearly a hard time managing thousands of tracks.I don't think it's just Sony. WMP and RealPlayer are buggy too when it comes to large libraries. iTunes works fine though... which is ironic considering that iPod users have an average of 500 tracks on their devices. WMP and RealPlayer are buggy too when it comes to large libraries. iTunes works fine though... which is ironic considering that iPod users have an average of 500 tracks on their devices.WMP 11 is actually quite good handling lots of tracks (WMP 10 was slow, I know). Or at least it's fast. I don't know about transferring to a player, though. What's annoying about Connect is that transferring the first 5GB can take, say, 35 minutes, but transferring the last 5GB (out of 18) will take a couple of hours. SonicStage is consistently slow during the whole process.I just wonder why few people complain about the slow navigation when using SonicStage. To me, it was just unbearable. I prefer SonicStage in general as a program, but I can't stand my Walkman stuttering just to see a list of albums.
0 YosNoor
Just thought I'd share this with you all. I upgraded my firmware to v3.0, and all was sweet, fast and smooth. Then I installed SS 4.0, had to re-initialise my walkman and proceeded to transfer all my music back onto it. It was slow, but at least it worked. Then I used my walkman, and it was about as slow as a really, really slow thing. I was loathe to go back to connect player, or SS 3.4 cause I didn't want to go through the whole re-initialise thing again, so I decided to defrag the walkman using the PC's defrag. First I analysed the walkman, and it didn't look very fragmented, but I thought I'd do it anyway, and lo and behold, super-fast walkman again! For those of you finding the walkman painfully (or unusably) slow after installing SS 4.0, try defraging your walkman. Worked a treat for me. Hope this helps. 0 userno2
I haven't updated my A3000 firmware, but i did update Sonicstage to 4.0.When I connected my player it SS updated the players database. When I'm looking for tracks I can either search one long list from 'a-z' or another long list 'etc' for all options.. The a-z list is unsorted (the first album name begins with a 's'. Infact all the various lists are sorted incorrectly. Can anyone help with this? Also does artist link function still mess up the ID tags on mp3s?Sorry if this in the wrong thread but is seems to cover a number of topics Edited June 2, 2006 by userno2

0 Olz
I set out to defrag mine just like you Nick Van Howen, but after analysing and then getting it going it took ages to do relatively little, so I gave up. I may retry, but a quicker and more effective solution may be to initialise the player and put all of the songs back on it.
0 Beethovenian
Has anybody else tried the defrag method? It would be interesting to see if that may make the player's navigation as fast as with CP-loaded files. I won't try it for now because it would be a hassle to go back to CP if it doesn't provide the same performance.Another question: What happens if you load your player using CP and then connect it to SonicStage? I know SS recognizes it and doesn't ask you immediately to format the player, but what happens next? Once I accidentally did that and ended up with a useless player, since SS just got stuck and corrupted my player's database. Assuming it doesn't get stuck, though, what can happen? Does it update usage, artistlink info etc.? Does it make your player as slow as when you load everything with SS?
0 YosNoor
Just a quick addition to my earlier post, I actually initialised my walkman and put all the songs back on using SS and that's what caused it to be unbelievably slow. I then defragmented the walkman, and now it's superfast. I've been using it for about a week adding and deleting songs on it, and I haven't had to defrag once, and it's still quick, so it seems you don't have to defrag each time. 0 Beethovenian
How many songs do you have, YosNoor? I'm still too afraid of moving to SonicStage and be unable to get the same results as yours and then be forced to transfer everything again with Connect. And also, is it possible to defrag a completely filled hard-drive? I think Windows requires some free space, and that's something missing for me, since I have more than 45GB of music encoded in Atrac. 0 SimonGrafftey
I tried the defrag having seen YosNoor's post and my A3000 does work much faster now. It may not be quite as fast as it was when I previously used CP, but SSCP is so much easier to use and much more robust than CP. I did the same thing, I transfered back all my tracks using CP, installed SSCP and then did auto transfer to transfer back to the A3000. I then uninstalled CP. I found the A3000 was really quite slow before the defrag (I have 4500 tracks) so many thanks to YosNoor for the tip!
0 Menno
Same here. Before I updated to firmware 3.00 and SSCP I first initialized the hd. After updating the firmware and transferring all my music, the player suddenly became unbearably slow when accessing the menus. Defragging only took about 3 mins (with 13 Gbs of music on the hd) and completely fixed any issues I had.
