lordnordeth
Ok guys. Just got a steal of a deal on another 600D ($10 with a Hi-MD disc included). Here's why. My friend, having watched me last night do a hack on my G750, decided he was going to do the same for his 600D. He looked up the hack, and claims he followed it step by step, but he definitely buggered something up, as the unit, while it plays fine, and can FF, REW, etc with no issues, cannot go into Menu mode, and I tried to go back into service mode to fix it, and it will not go, no matter HOW many times I try. Any ideas? I's almost as if the Group, and Navi/Menu buttons have stopped working. Any help appreciated, but it's not the end of the world, if it plays, then it's a viable portable unit! sfbp
Sounds to me like he didn't reassemble it correctly.
lordnordeth
He didn't take it apart, he did the "firmware change" hack (Put unit on Hold, Press and hold Group then hit FFRRFRFRPP then release group button)
sfbp
to get out of service mode remember to remove the battery?
lordnordeth
It's outta service mode. I'm currently listening to a disc on it. Had the battery out for 20 mins, didn't alleviate the issue. cannot access the menu feature, or get it back into service mode.
sfbp
take off the lid and remove the board on the underside of the lid. Tweak all the buttons (probably one of them is stuck on somehow).
lordnordeth
Thought of that one after i posted the initial message, and tried. no luck.
sfbp
do ANY buttons work? Or are you using the remote?
lordnordeth
All of the buttons work(I have a remote, but I'm not using it to try and enter service mode). The Navi button will wold on a single press, but if you hold it, it will not go into menu mode. The group button works if you press it once, but does not seem to register when trying to put the unit into service mode. Everything else including the Jog Dial works...it's the weirdest damned thing I've ever seen, and I cant figure it out.
sfbp
There's another (documented) way to enter service mode if pressing buttons fails. You could simply undo the changes he made.
lordnordeth
Can you give me a link to how to get into service mode the alternate way? I tried searching here but only found the standard (button press) way. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
sfbp
Sorry, I thought it involved soldering something but not apparently on these HiMD units. I checked as many as I could. The documented means involve a piece of software which I don't have. Ah.. there we are... holding pin 224 down will cause the main chip to go into test mode. Sounds like fun. lordnordeth
OK, so I have a unit that cant access menu's. Right oh then! (when you start mentioning holding tiny little pins, I start thinking of this thing as a "playback only unit")Thanks for all the help though, it's appreciated. sfbp
That's probably wise. I own an NH700 that has NO overwrite head, it is playback only too. To make sure I didn't press record by mistake, I superglued it
