VGCJS210JB_mksp.pdf

I have a Sony Vaio VGC-JS210J All In One Desktop.

About two months ago my computer screen just started to flicker and then went black. I thought at first it was a brightness issue but that wasn't the case. When I reboot the computer it will get to the login screen and then do the same thing by flickering and going black. If you shot a flashlight at the screen you can see everything on the desktop and it seems like the computer is fine.

I was told that it was the "Inverter" chip which I replaced and it wasn't that. Now it was out for at least a month only coming on when I reboot and then flickering out at the login screen but then about two weeks ago in the middle of the night I saw the screen come on and it stayed on for three hours without hesitation. I did it one more time but only for one hour.

Someone at Sony informed me it has to be the "backlight" which cost about $550 to fix cause the backlight doesn't come as a separate piece but with the LCD.

I am having doubts that the whole LCD has to be replaced since I can see the desktop occasionally and then with the flashlight as a light source.

I am hoping someone can help me with this.

I am running Windows 7 Home Premium and it was an upgrade. I didn't do anything that I can remember around the time that this happened either.

I attached the specs as well.

Thank You!

Sorry but this is "crustimony proseedcake" for all laptops. If they go, they go. The backlight is an inexpensive part ($15?), but to get it replaced is expensive. Not a Sony problem particularly. If you are reasonably handy you might be able to change it yourself. Otherwise expect to pay for a new (complete) screen. These days that will cost you more than a new laptop, sigh.

You might try looking for help online with Google, like here. For my part I have had this happen twice. Once 15 years ago, got the parts, fixed it, and promptly had the laptop stolen. At that time the manufacturer wanted $2000 to replace the screen out of warranty. In this case I also managed to damage it somewhat, so I was glad to claim a new one. Second time, I got the right parts for a family member, and fixed it (for about 30 seconds) after which it blew again. So I am not the best person to consult.

Good luck!
