Windows 7 Driver for older Walkmans?

I'm trying to get my old walkman loaded with music again but it seems windows 7 can't recognize it. The model is a NW-E407 and I used to run it on sonic stage 4.3 for Windows XP. Any ideas?

I should add that I've tried the sony support site but they don't offer the driver software for anything newer than windows XP. I've tried reinstalling the newest sonic stage (including the walkman drivers) and I have the most up to date windows media player.

I'm assuming you have Windows64. 7 vs Vista vs XP is not the issue here, if you have 32-bit W7 then whatever drivers you used before can and should be made to work.

Are you sure your NW-E407 is a NetMD device? If not it shouldn't require special drivers, just a couple of install files which may need to be tweaked to make them install in the 32-bit registry. Perhaps someone here knows what to do.

The foolproof option (if you have Ultimate or Pro version of W7-64) is to use the XP emulation mode. Even 32-bit drivers will work. But these versions cost real $$$.

It would help to know what your device's USB devid is. Two parts manufacturer/model. Mfr should be 054C (sony). Model might be (for instance) 01C3. If so then mucking around with the drivers in pa_drivers should get you where you want to go. Unzip them to somewhere and point the installer at (the winxp directory) them. Maybe that's all that is necessary, don't panic yet.

thank you for the reply. I am running 32-bit windows 7. I've downloaded the pa_drivers but I'm not sure what I'm supposed to do with it. Which installer are you talking about? If I click on the "setup" icon in the unzipped pa_drivers folder, it just tells me that the correct drivers have already been installed. Sorry, I'm not too computer savvy...

I'm actually having trouble installing the drivers, or something. Comp sees it as MD walkman, but says it cannot find the correct driver or there is a conflict. Running 7 64 bit, but installations ran just fine.

You need the 64-bit driver. It's a separate download in our drivers section.
