tbbxrr
The new version of the Mac OS does not run Power PC applications. The 2006 software Sony supplied for Hi-MD transfer is in the Power PC format. Has there been any update to this software to the Intel format? bluecrab
AFAIK, there have not been any updates. Disclaimer: I don't use Hi-MD or a computer as part of my MD routine. However, I do pretty much keep track of Mac stuff and haven't seen anything about the Sony Hi-MD s/w being ported/updated from/for PPC to Intel. If you have an Intel Mac, there are various options you can consider to run the Windows version of the Hi-MD s/w. That would mean making your Mac able to run Windows. And that means forking over $$ for the Windows OS. None of this is surprising, as Apple itself has pretty much dumped PPC users. It really is a shame that Sony didn't integrate Mac/MD more. myke1100
No updates I am currently running the HI-MD transfer software for Mac in the last version of OSX that I believe supported that software which is OSX snow leopard. If you have a current mac that includes OSX Lion you wont be able to run the software. I downgraded from and reinstalled Snow Leopard when I found that I couldn't run the software in Lion.. I am actively looking to participate in this forum because really like the functionality of the minidisc and I hope to get as much longevity from the platform as I can . . . I am scouring the web to find groups that can help me with advice and instruction as needed.
sfbp
I don't know much about Macs but I do have a brother-in-law whose Mac (new-ish) perfectly runs Windows 7. And thence Sonic Stage - I actually installed it and tested it out.
Azureal
Free VirtualBox and an old copy of 32 bit Windows XP would run Sonic Stage like a charm on your Mac. You could go back to Mountain Lion. I was running Leopard on my Macbook Pro with XP in a Fusion container. SonicStage ran great in that as well. Fusion will cost you $100 US, VirtualBox is free and there is a Mac version. You can pick up a valid copy of Windows XP on eBay for pretty cheap. lasersocks
The most recent sonic stage crashes my XP in virtual box on 10.8.3. I can transfer maybe one file to my MZ-N510 and then sonic stage crashes. If there is a workaround to this, please let me know! sfbp
I think that may mean the NetMD driver is not working. You have to convince Apple not to drop the Usb connx, would b my guess. Have u had it working on a mac before with N510? Or, maybe it never got connected and the first song never actually got sent, only buffered. In which case you have the standard problem: whether to go buy a real Windows machine.
bluecrab
Couple of things. If it worked prior to 10.8.3, then 10.8.3 could be the issue, of course. Macs are, in effect, real WinTel machines and can be dual-booted, should you be so inclined if all else fails. http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/39253-guide-the-fool-proof-vista-xp-mac-os-x-dual-boot-guide. I see that last year sfbp got 7 and OS X and sonic stage to cooperate (with a "newish" os x version, don't know which one) although it isn't clear whether that was a VM or "real" Windows. Wish I could be more helpful, but good luck with it.
lasersocks
I can get it to transfer about one song at a time successfully, but SS crashes after doing so. It also seems to crash quite a bit with library functions. I have a straight up windows 7 laptop and it all works 100%. Ideally though I'd like to get SS working properly on XP through VM so that I can use my mac which is my main computer. Having to maintain a separate PC just to use MD is pretty ridiculous. SileEeles
A lot of people seem to have suggested dual booting, this is what I'd do if I were in such a pickle. As it stands, I have Win7 Ultimate and, as with yourself, it runs SS perfectly. Obviously, I recently got back into MD so before I found this place I didn't even know if NetMD would be possible. I know nothing about Apple's operating systems, for various reasons (price being one of them) I avoid them like the plague, so I'm fresh out of things that might help you :/ I hope you find something that works
