ShriDurga
It remains a shining piece of technology, however, proof that moving parts doesn’t have to mean battery drain within 8 hours, and the quality of the recording and playback is far superior to MP3. http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/why-i-still-love-the-minidisc-opinion/
darryl.l
I own four units myself, a Sony MZ-R55, Sharp MD-MT190( my "in the field" unit), Sony MDS-JB940, and the Cadillac of the portables, the MZ-RH1. They have so many advantages over the MP3 players, the main one being that they were pretty much designed to record live as evidenced by the fact they all have mic inputs. Except for the big home deck that is. Back when MD was still a viable medium you could get great deals on media and its re-recordability factor was a real big plus. I'll never run ouit! I agree that in listening tests it beats out MP3 too. I think Sony did a big booboo with its insistance on the SCMS system. I mean you couldn't even copy the recordings YOU made. Jimma
You can actually copy recordings you made yourself if you recorded then with a mic or line input. I record my dj mixes from vinyl to MiniDisc and I can quite happily make digital recordings from that disc onto another MD. SCMS is a pain but it only prevents you from making digital copies of things that were recorded from a digital source originally.
SegaMDJ
I love MiniDisc because I think the format smokes a cd, mp3 and cassette…I tend to use MD's in the car as I do a lot of driving but over the years I've swapped back and forth between tape, cd and mp3 head units but the only one that gave me the best sound was my Kenwood or Sony MD head unit, there is something about the bass that drives it home from me. I'm blessed with a high end ears and they need qualty music passing though them.....only MiniDisc gets the seal of approval
Sony_Fan
In my honest opinion, Minidisc is superior to other formats only when ATRAC SP (292kpbs) is used. I prefer the raw sound of CD optical recording in realtime compared to using SonicStage to rip CDs and transfer music. Apart from ATRAC SP, i'll just use a regular Sony MP3 player.
