eastbayarb
I have a Sony CD 5-disc changer, which I use to transfer to my MD deck via optical and Control A1 to transfer CD-Text titles. Even when I burn CD's at 4X, and my resulting MD's have skipping. What is a good brand of CDs? Perhaps my CD player is bad? I uswd some TDK CD-R that I ran out of, and they don't have this issue. PhilippeC
Why not recording from your computer in real time if you have a good sound car and an optical out ? Make first Wav or Flac files from your Cds. Then just use Sonic Stage or much better a player like Winamp (+ plugins Wincue for adding silence between tracks/ Asio4all or Kernel Steaming for audio output) or Foobar2000 (+ plugins Post-track silence / Asio4all or Kernel Steaming). You can use Replay Gain to normalize the sound level. Note that if you download 24bit-96kHz albums, it is the only way to record real 24bit-44,1kHz MDs ! punkrockaddict
I use a 400 Cd changer from Sony. I think is a problem with your player not with your cd-r´s. Anyway you should listen to a cd playing. If skipping persists you should try to clean the laser. My old changer a 200cd one had problems with the drive. It needed some oil and worked flawlessly .There was also lots of skipping before. It´s always the best way to record cds from a cd player -> Md recorder. With an optical connection you even don´t need a good soundcard. greetz

I tried foobar2000 and the post gap plugin, but it was very inconsistent with creating separate tracks (even when setting gaps between 2 - 4 seconds). I used one of those CD lense cleaners, but not much difference. Perhaps I need to open up my CD player and clean the lense better. Or adjust one of the pots? I really am getting fed up with dealing with a PC. I really only want to burn CDs with it, then go from CD to MD with my decks.
punkrockaddict
It may be the same as with mine.. Try to grease the sledge where the laser drives above.Mine did his job as new then. btw how about copying cd-text that way.I never ever did have success.I had an issue running the cdx (idk) 200 cd changer with my old JB920 through the A1 connection and getting text protected all the way. I use to burn flac files with burrrn , which is great as it accomplishes replay gain and is freeware , and even those burned cds with text couldn´t be written to the Md. Later on i tried my 400 cdx changer with the JB930 running on A1 II and nothing happens. I gave up trying the cd-text ripping directly. I just edit in SoS or with a Keyboard attached to the Md unit. I wonder if there´s any burn programm that really does write cd-text that can be imported without that stupid Drm feature that seems to come along with it. so good luck trying. greetz
eastbayarb
I burn FLAC to CD with Imgburn, and the resulting CDs have CD-TEXT. I connect my CD player and MD deck together via optical for the audio, and a stereo (mono cable does not work) male to male cable for the Control A1 and it wprks great for titling MDs. My prob is CDs skipping, so I will try your suggestions.
sfbp
I think you should have zero trouble if you use Nero... not sure what recent versions did but 6.x has never done this to me. It also writes CD Text that is recognised by all units (where Sonic Stage's own disks are NOT). I wonder if there´s any burn programm that really does write cd-text that can be imported without that stupid Drm feature that seems to come along with sit. punkrockaddict
you kinda missunderstood me.The "import" feature to the Md Deck don´t work because there´s some kind of DRM in the Cd-tex I wasprogramm that writes cd-text without drm. All my burned Cd-r´s work properly in my 400 cd changer. But i can´t import these when recording because they´re protected. Using burrrn is the best choice to burn audio cds from flac wav etc. I wrote it accomplishes replay gain , cd-text of course, and many other features. Nero is no good in relation to burrrn. And i have to wonder why eastbayarb uses a stereo miniplug. It should be mono to work properly as stated in the Manual also. Nevertheless this feature is worthless as long as there´s no choice to split that Drm crap off from the cd-text.
eastbayarb
Punkrockaddict, What kind of oil did you use to clean your player? Would WD-40 work? I have had no issues at all burnibg FLAC to CD.
sfbp
Nero is no good in relation to burrrn. I don't understand. Nero is the ONLY burning software that writes CD text that can be read on every device I own. Including being imported by Sonic Stage. It would seem the most simple solution is to source those TDKs that _did_ work. Any reason for not going that route? Personally I only use TDK brand CD-Rs as I've had odd glitches with supermarket/no-branded ones. In my experience I have seen hardware that is "picky" about which CDRs it will work with so I don't think you should worry about the deck, just try and source the CDRs that did work or get something close to it. eastbayarb
Well i ran out of TDK CD-Rs. I just want to get down to the bottom of this before I purchase more CD-Rs or blame the issue on my CD player. I burned the same brand of CD-Rs (Philips @4X) that once worked fine, but have issues now, so maybe it really is the player at fault.
