Minidiscaholic
Hi Guys I bought a Vaio with a built in MD unit from Japan on the "Easy Auction Japan" site. The operating language was XP (Japanese) and I had it changed to English. Unfortunately I lost the Driver for the MD unit and I am having trouble finding a compatible driver/unit. It maybe not possible to use the MD section now I have installed an English O/S. My local repairer tried to obtain details from Sony without success. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Cheers Norm

sfbp
Try looking in the device manager for details of the PID and VID (presumably the VID will be 054C for Sony) and we can help. Look for the yellow exclamation point, and drill down to "device details", possibly under USB, or (more likely) labelled as "unknown device" (I'm not 100% sure about this point). Minidiscaholic
Hi I have checked the device manager and there is a yellow ? under other devices which states NET MD - U01 and in the properties it says not installed - check on line for the latest driver. I connected to the net and it could not be found. I then went into the NMD- U01 properties and it displayed this reference USB/VID 054C&PID 0097/5&239CAB5&0&2 and there is also a drop down menu with many references that I am not sure about. Minidiscaholic
Hi I must point out that this Pc works fine with Sonic Stage 4.3 on all my NETMD units through the external USB connections Norm
sfbp
0097 - perfect. Give me 24 hours and I'll send you an update to the 32-bit driver, and you can test it. If it works, we will update both 32 and 64 bit driver packages to support this unit. I'm a bit surprised that you can't get the driver off the old release CD or HD. If you didn't reformat, it should be as simple as finding the existing driver by doing update. But thank you for the info, this means that device will be supported on Windows 7. Note: you will have to remove all the EXISTING drivers for this to work properly. I'll post a link to that in my email to you.

Minidiscaholic
I have been unable to confirm that the procedure I was given would work. This is probably due to my lack of computer Knowledge. But thanks for your help. Can anyone tell me how to cancel my membership to the forum. Been all over the site and cant find the details to do this. Norm
