Sony XAV-AX5500 head unit power loss

I recently had a XAVAX5500 sony car stereo installed. It randomly loses all power until I shut the car off then it will come back on. The installer replaced the head unit and I STILL have  the same problem! The installer is stumped as to why its doing that. The original stereo didn't do that. Any tips/information is appreciated!

Alternator starting to die. Mine took years to do so. Some head units are like the canary in the mine. You He/she could start by checking the voltage supply a. at the battery b. at the head unit.
