What do you think happens if I write Sony a mail asking for the procedure to access the service-menu?

(I tried. I'm curious to see what answer I get :P I wrote a very polite mail.)

I don't think they will tell anything to you (I hope i'm wrong).

Yikes... The guy at Sony mailed me yesterday telling me the same thing I know already, that "in european countries, all mp3-players has a volume limit to protect our ears bla bla bla..."

Hello? Couldn't he at least stop playing dumb and tell me, "sorry, I'm not allowed to tell you that" or something.

I'm very satisfied with my NW-S205F in every other ways, so it's quite annoying that the volume is so low...

I don't think he was playing dumb - just stating the reason for the limiter being in place.

I had a conversation with one of the Sony service engineers a few weeks back about this subject. Even if there was a way of removing the limit they cannot tell people otherwise Sony could be held liable if a user suffered hearing loss as a consequence.

i think we have to wait for a new firmware release and load the US-JP version instead of the european one...

any of you knows if it's already possible to find a non-eu firmware release for S2xx ?

another solution is to buy a couple of earbuds more sensitive

i tried with the Sennehiser MX-450 (113dB SPL at 16Ohms) and it sounds louder

next days i will try a creative in-ear model that have an higher Spl level.

and if the volume limit is an hardware limit, just like on an old 1997 tape walkman i had, it's possible to short circuit the resistors... but i think it's so stupid and expansive to develop 2 different hardware boards for eu and us-jp....
