giki
Hi everyone,I got this thread running to signify something really significant. We talk of sony losing its way and not doing much.Losing profit, marketshare and customers but.....has anyone ever thought that sony has been different all along and while it has made mistakes it was definitely brave all along.Who thought of a portable MO digital music player?Betamax failed but didnt sony try and mind you betamax was seriously good stuff, just too good for Joe Public to digest. The idea of ATRAC which while miserable was around much before mp3 and dont MDs sound good even today.Who had a good hard look at the CD and came up with the MD.Who integrated a NC circuit in a player and make it work fabulously.Who actually researched DAPs to come up with stuff such as VME and deliver stunning SQ and good battery life at the same time unlike other companies which just prepare a concept and then let others do the integration of bits and pieces to make their DAPs.Whih company delivered a console brand that 10 years on is still No 1 and revolutionised the gaming industry.Reckon it wasnt easy for sony all along so lets focus a bit on sonys positive side too.BTW they had a drop of about 5% in profits but estimate to top previous years results. What do you reckon people. markey
The 3.5 inch floppy drive that you now see on PCs was introduced by Sony in 1980, and the compact disc a collaboration between Sony and Phillips. I think Sony pretty much leads the way.

DSP
well giki, you've got it exactly right!sony is one of the most innovative manufacturers in the world. Sony is a beautifull company with a long history rich of remarkable achievements. They are among the best and greatest comapnies ever. Just because sony is having some troubles doesn't mean that they're losing their strengths and reliabilities. For me, sony will always be one of the best companies ever to exist.People tend to exaggerate a lot when companies are having some troubles. Sony is a big firm and will get over this.If you compare sony to other companies, you'll see that sony is almost the perfect match between all the aspects that make good companies:Philips: good, reliable company. But advertising skills lack big time. They can't sell their products to their audience.Microsoft: well, they make decent stuff. but their atitude is disgusting. nuff said.Apple: they make great products and perfect software (apart from ipod/itunes imo) but since the succes of their ipod they tend to get a little arrogant imo. samsung: I've always had very good experiences with samsung products. They make cool, clever and smart products. just like sony. But their products are just not as ''high quality'' as sony's imo. But they'll get there, I'm shure that's just a matter of time.I just picked a few companies randomly for example. I'd mind you that it's my opinion.greetz
lamplighter
This is obviously subjective as we may say Sony is the most innovative others will say the same about Apple, Samsung, etc... but I have one personal opinion of Sony that I feel strongly about and that is that their design team is second to none. As people have said, Sony has had their share of blunders as has everyone else but the one fact remains and that is whether the product is succesful, ridiculous or what have you, a Sony product always looks fantastic.I think that is an important factor.LL-
