NW-S703 is even better than sony thinks!

hi guys,

I am the proud and excited owner of a sony NW-S703FB.

In the manual and on the information site it says that it doesn´t support WMA with DRM.

Well, As some people may know, I´ve purchased a Samsung YP-K5 a while a go. You get a voucher wth it. It lets you download music form www.surf2music.com for free! This music is in WMA (with DRM). I thought I´d give it a go with SSCP 4.2 and my Walkman (nw-s703).

I was schocked and stunned when I saw SSCP transferring these WMA files to my walkman with absolutely no errors or malfunctions of any kind. It went flwalessly to my walkman.

Now the fun part: I turned on my nw-s703, and slected the songs wich I´d transferred. Guess what, I was shocked once again. When pushing the ´´play´´ button on the player it started to play the song , with sound and everything!!!!

Does any-one know how this could be possible? Or does any-one have the smae experience? I really don´t mind! It was a very pleasant surprise!

after listening to s703, I cant imagine listening with anyother music player....(i am not talking abt u/i).

the sound quality is just mind-boggling,....I have never heard of anything like this before...

I could see astonishment in all my friend's eyes who tried my s703. this is the best thing I ever bought with my money.

You can use this for your ad program.

Can you imagine your automobile without suspension(shock observer) ?

If not, then why do you want to live without noise-cancelling on your music player ?

I LOVED the sound that HI-MD (MZ-NH900) used to give me, I thought I´d never experience that again. But I was wrong. indeed, this walkman beats everything I´ve ever heard, and I´ve heard many! It´s been a very long time ago that I was totally stunned by a DAP. Normally, I do have some criticisme to the sound. But this just made me speechless.

So I hope The NW-A800 will have similar sound quality, ´cause it´s design is not helping at all!

Also, the design Of NW-S700 is very stylish. black and chrome. I just love it. the sexiest DAP so far!

If sony can release a DAP with big capacity, great video performance and better SW (drag n drop would be the best) with this kinda sound quality they will have a big hit!

But I'm interested to know how does my E507 stands in terms of sound quality compared to the S70X series.

How much am I missing without the built-in noise cancelling technology?

I don´t own the 507 but the 7 Series is a huge upgrade soundwise to the AW 3000/1000.

Truth be told sound quality is superb with unprecedented channel seperation anf clarity.

I have owned every iPod since the 4th gen Photo and all of them sound like tin cans next to the 7.

The 71 SL are really not appropriate phones. I reckon the stock earbuds on the 7 Series are better.

In any event, I recommend upgrading to the EX90 Phones which are a great value for the money and sound stellar.

Just a few years ago one used to pay 150-200 USD for quality like this.

I, too, strongly recommend using MDR-EX90 earphones with NW-S700 series. You won't be able to use Noise Cancelling with this pair, but you can truly unlock the sound quality with EX90 (greatly reduced hissing noise from the supplied noise canceling earphones, which is not from the player itself, and better separation). Lastly, NW-S700 series support ATRAC Advanced Lossless and linear PCM playback.

DSP; are you sure the track is DRMed? Can you play it on another PC? Is it a subscription service like napster?

@DSP - are you sure?! I have the NWS706 and SonicStage won;t even play my DRMed WMVs, let alone transfer them.....

on another note, i've noticed that some songs (mp3s on my PC) transfer but play back blank on the mp3 player - any ideas what could be causing this?

well guys,

I'm a bit confused at the moment.

I've transfered some DRMed files that came from my samsung player, and they play.

But when I do this again with new DRMed files it won't play them.

So was it a flaw in SURF2MUSIC? or in my computer?

I don't know.

I'm sure that the songs wich I've transfered must be DRMed. I've downloaded them from SURF2MUSIC and they claim that all their songs are DRMed. I must say that these files were downloaded directly to the player (samsung) and I copied them back to my HDD. If I download these files directly to my hDD they won't transfer.

So I'm a bit confused now. I'm sure the files I've transfered to my sony are from SURF2MUSIC and should be DRMed.
