Need help with headphones for nw-s70x series

Question

So I picked up a nw-s706F in japan a couple months ago. It was FANTASTIC. Unfortunately, due to some freak twist of fate, the 1 time I have my headphones unplugged from my unit, which was while visiting my parents in January, they were promptly misplaced and most probably destroyed by some combination of my OCD mother/her hyperactive and amazingly awesome dog. Either way, neither one is telling me where they are and I'm out of the noise cancelling goodness. So I've tried going through sony service and they can't find a model number on the headphones at all. I think my chances of a replacement part are slim, they've never heard of the mdr-nc022 (written on the side of the headphones), and all the reference on American Sonystyle to the nw-s705f says they contain mdr-ex90sl headphones, which I'm pretty sure is not the case considering those are not even noise cancelling.

What should I do? Short of buying a cheap(er) nw-s703f! I need the silence!!!

thanks a lot in advance to anyone replying.

Just a suggestion; Shure E4.

I haven't jet bought a 7xx but I use them with my A3000 & NW-HD1 and the sound quality and synergy is absolutely fantastic. And the isolation, even though it's passive, is very good.

Downsides are nc isn't adjustable, and the E4s aren't cheap.

OTOH, the advantage of Shure phones is that, should they ever break, even long after the warrant period is over, they sent you new ones for ~ $50,-

That's what I was worried about. Unfortunately, there is a huge difference to me between normal iems and active canceling since I'm using this in a subway/city setting.

I found a part number for the mdr-nc022 assembly on a couple electronics websites, buts it's eta is later in february. I'll keep waiting I guess.

wberriel1,

It's very strange that Sony doesn't have the part available stateside (since they're selling the 703/705). If you can wait, perhaps you can try one of the sites (or an web auction seller?) who sell stuff from Japan. Ask if they can order the NC022 phones for you as a part from Japan.

The quick way (at an increased cost) is of course, as you said, to order an S703F, perhaps even find an used one off eBay.

Hi all,

I'm in the same predicament. My noise cancelling headphones (MDR-NC022) have been chewed up by my dog (teach me to leave them lying around), and am also without the excellent headphones. I've still got the extention cord, but not headphone component. I want to replace them, buy as I'm in Australia, I'm doubting very much my chances. I don't have a problem ordering them from overseas, so has anyone else had luck in this department? I'm wondering if I can use the model BLK MDRNC22B headphones with my flash player, but if so, does the headphone component detach from the battery case and can this be used with my 706F? It would make sense to have the headphones to do this, but I'm betting it won't.

I would also like to acquire some of the assessories that come with the NW-S706F, such as the BCR-NWU3 recording cradle, an extra cable (WMCNWR1), and the silicon case (CKHNWS700). Can anyone suggest a good supplier overseas that will post to Australia?

If anyone has some useful information, please either post here or privately.

Thanks

Finn

As of yesterday, you could buy a pink NW-S703FP from Buy.com with free shipping for $49.99 plus tax if applicable. That would be cheaper than any Sony replacement item.

BTW, I found a web review which compares the earphones to isolating IEMs. The main point was that the Sony earphones were more comfortable than isolating IEMs. I have the Sony EX90s and they are definitely more comfortable than my Shure E3s. The EX90s are similar in style to the Sony S70x phones.

Ok,

I've been trying to do some research on this, and I want to know if anyone can tell me what the difference is between the MDR-NC022 headphones and the MDR-EX082 headphones. Are they both noise cancellation headphones? I know the MDR-NC022 are, but the EX082 also claim to be on a lot of websites, but I don't trust them as they tend to mix their photos up. The EX082 seem to be bundled together with S600 and S700 walkmans. Can anyone enighten me on this topic.

Thanks

Finn

As far as I was aware I thought the NC022 are the "bundled" version of the NC22 (minus the control box) that come with NW-Sx series. They are noise-cancelling, (hence the NC in the model number) and the EX082 were the bundled version of the EX85's that come with the NW-A80x series. These are not noise-cancelling.

You could always get the EX90 and clingfilm mod them by covering up 3 holes in back by a few layers.... this actually makes them sound a lot better (miles better than stock S700 phones. The strange thing is Clingfilm modded EX90s islotate just as good as the stock phones with noise cancellation on. The stock phones are terrible for islolation when NC is off.... my Westone UM2 with Sony buds islolate better than both the stock phones with NC on and EX90s

i reccomend the sennheisercx300...theyre brilliant trust me it just plays the song as its meant to......its better than most of the sony's in ear headphones plus its low impendance means you dont need to turn up your mp3 player to hear your songs...its not expensive and theyre so light i even forget theyre in my ear sometimes....

Beware though there are a few fakes around so use amazon to buy them
