Lossless on PSP and PS3

Question

Heya,

The wikipedia entry for Atrac Advanced Lossless states that the PSP and PS3 support the lossless format. While I'm almost positive that the PSP does not - does the PS3? Given that many people will have a PS3 hooked up to a stereo, seems like it would be quite cool if it could.

There are alot of errors on Wikipedia. I own PS3 but I can't seem to import musics in ATRAC Advanced Lossless format from CD. But I can connect Walkmans and play music. Maybe, when I am playing musics from Walkman then it may be playing Lossless.

Far as I know, only NW-S600, NW-S700, NW-A800 and PC can play ATRAC Advanced Lossless.

Zizone, I'm surprised you can also play Atrac lossless on your ps3 from a Walkman. I'm not sure PS3 has the ability to recognize the format yet. Are you sure the track is in lossless? When I plug my walkman (S700 or A800) with AL tracks on it, the tracks are displayed with a "?" and when I play it it says it's an incompatible format.

This feature is certainly planned in a future firmware update.

oh I meant maybe it can. Only files I tried are Atrac3plus not actually Lossless. So, I put that maybe. It will be nice if PS3 can actually do that. I hope I didn't cause any confusions. :o

No confusion. B) I read the entry on Wiki about SonicStage, and realized that some information had been updated with others not. Sony should solidify there ATRAC devices so that they can play all the same ATRAC formats. This will make life easier for those that have multiple ATRAC devices, and further strengthen Sony's position in the market place.

Thanks for the responses folks. I was temporarily very excited by the prospect of lossless on my PSP ;) Shinji, I agree - hopefully Sony will create some sort of uniformity across the board with some firmware updates.

Note: To mods, I realise I may have posted a similar question before - I can't remember. If I did, I apologise.
