Problems with second hand NW A3000

Question

I recently purchased a NW A3000 from ebay to replace a NW A3000 that had been damaged. The unit itself looks fine, seems to be in good condition, but I'm having a nightmare trying to get it to speak with my pc and transfer music.

I've reinitialised it, tried different usb ports, installed the 3.00 firmware and have the 4.3 version of SonicStage but I get the same error messages.

When I'm trying to transfer music onto it, it works for about 10 mins, then I get an error saying 'Windows - Delayed Write Failed'. I've also recieved several messages saying the usb has malfunctioned, and I also get a System Error 032 on the player itself.

There are more errors but I've lost count...

I really don't know where to go next with this; I've pretty much run out of ideas and patience! I didn't have a problem with my last NW A3000 (until I dropped it!) and I don't understand why I'm having issues with this one.

If anyone can help I'd be grateful.

Thanks

No not yet, I'll try it tonight and see if that helps.

I managed to get some songs on it today and have been listening to it at work. Most of the time it's been ok, but all of a sudden it's started to play bits of songs at the ends of completely different songs, then it hangs, meaning I have to have reset it (getting through a lot of paperclips at work!).

EDIT: I have just tried it on another pc using SonicStage and it was transferring music quite happily for 5-10 mins and then there was a message on the pc saying 'USB Device not recognised'. It also says 'Sorry, there is a system error (No. 032).' on the screen of the mp3 player.

Any ideas?

If you hadn't tried it on another pc I would have recommended re-installing the latest version of Sonicstage, but personally I think the player is faulty. You could try re-installing Sonicstage to make sure all the drivers etc. are installed correctly and give it a go.

hmm, maybe the person that sold it to you knew of the problems and "failed" to tell you on purpose in order to sell his unit?

Indeed, that's what I'm thinking...

I'll reinstall SonicStage and give it another go.

EDIT Right, reinstalled SS, started transferring muisc, worked fine for about half an hour and then SS seized up.

Bored of this now, so do we reckon it's just a duff unit then?

I recently bought another A3000 on eBay myself, and it too had some problems. It would charge via USB but not transfer music. Looking closely at the connection slot with a magnifying glass revealed damaged prongs on one side, so the cable couldn't connect fully.

Anyway, mine is in the shop for repair out-of-warranty. So much for any savings buying on eBay lol. At least the seller offerred a full refund or partial refund if I wanted to keep it.

I reckon so, didn't like to say at first but I'll have to agree with Ascariss.

Hmm, let's see, I guess you pressed the reset button at the bottom? if you have ingore this

try this, even though i myelf use connect player, I had similar problems with CP at the beginning, so I suggest openning SS, and then transferring 10-15 songs or the max amount of songs into the device that SS will allow. then disconnect after each transfer in order for the device to build the library.

do this until you have moved over all the songs you want. then listen away.

Kia Ora Island, if that still doesn't work, check the connection at the bottom of the unit and see if its all fine, next check the cable you got with it, check to see if its all fine and good. finally shake the unit around a bit. you should not hear anything moving around, if you hear something then it probably means the device has fallen a few many times. I've dropped mine twice and nothing is flying around in it yet :P. oddly enough something is rattling around in my A1000 :P but I've not had issues or dropped that before so not sure what is rattling in it.

SS stalling is not usually connected to the device not working. hope you got all that lol.

Max sorry to hear about your problems, I still have another 2 year warrenty on my sony, and might have been willing to sell it, but I realized that I would not get anywhere near the money I wanted for it, at least some return on it :( and ya I am in canada and the extended warrenty is transferrable.
