Charging display differences - A80X

Question

I noticed some differences when charging my A-806.

When charging through USB the player has three different modes. The initial mode when you first connect it:

charge_usb_empty.jpg

While it is charging the battery indicator rolls through the one quarter/half/three quarter/four bar symbols (one quarter seen here):

charge_usb_quarter.jpg

And finally when it is full it looks like this:

charge_usb_full.jpg

However, when using the ACNWUM50 charger there is are different displays. When you first plug it in it looks like this:

charge_wart_initial.jpg

After a few seconds it changes to this display:

charge_wart_charging.jpg

When full it looks like this:

charge_wart_full.jpg

Any ideas why?

Not sure, but it certainly reminds me of the iPod when you eject the iPod (in iTunes) while it's still connected to the USB. It eventually shows a large image of a battery charging on the screen. Could you listen to the player when it's charging via the AC adapter? Maybe that's the difference?

Button functions are locked down during the charge/connection using USB. However, the player is fully functional when charging using the adapter. Good catch! :) I now see that the charger (also correctly referred to as an adapter) can also be used as a source of power.

Now how much use is it to be draining the player (by using it) while charging it? Does it charge faster than it drains or would you always be keeping it at an "even keel"?

When the NW-A800 is connected to the computer you will get the Connecting screen. This gives the user warnings to be careful. Also, music on the player can only be played through SonicStage/Connect Player.

When the NW-A800 is connected to the ACNWUM50 or similar changer the screen needs to be different. This connection works as a standard charger. However it is limited. You can plug in your headphones and listen to your music.

Connecting indicates that the NW-A800 is connected to the computer, the other screen indicates that it is not.

does any one else wish that the connecting wire of the ACNWUM50 could have been longer? it can be irriatating to find that it is a couple of inches short of a table.

Yes, I've thought that too. In fact I have the player on a chair while charging it for the photographs I posted at the beginning of this thread because that was the only way I could get it near enough to an available wall socket. I can't really think of any other socket in my place that I can both plug it in and be able to have the player sit in a safe place.

It hardly makes it useful as an adapter (doesn't matter for charging). The only way to really use it as an adapter is with an extension cord. I guess the lack of connecting wire is so that it fits in the case and remains portable.

Where I am lucky is that I have several outlets close to me, and they are all relatively safe. I however prefer the SCR-NWU3 cradle, since it can function just like ACNWUM50 if I don't use the stand.
