Question

Hi everyone, I'm new to the site, but have read stuff from it for a while now.

I am seriously considering retiring my trusty NW-A1200 for something whith a somewhat better battery life (averaging about 9 hrs, falling far short of the claimed 20hrs. I always hoped it would improve with a few charge cycles but it never did!) The NW-808 seems to be the obvious choice I'm just can't find out anywhere whether it has a line out option like the 1200, I use this quite a lot to connect to my hi-fi and think it is a great feature.

Also could any owners out there let me know the average battery battery life times they are getting my libary is ripped at 132k ATRAC3.

Thanks in advance.

Hi, had the same battery issues with my A3000.

i now have the A808, and I estimate battery life better then 20 hrs in real ife, shuffle, skipping tracks etc. and 256 kbs ATRAC. Since kbs is far less important in flash then in HD-players you'll probably get the same batterylife.

There is no line-out feature on this unit. Sony has been releasing bookshelf HI-FIs (the CMTU1BT being the first) that offer direct USB connection. I can connect any of my units via USB and have them play through the stereo that way.

Alternatively you can use the BCRNWU3 and connect the NW-80X unit to your HI-FI.

Are you sure? If I wasn't so lazy I'd get up and check, I'm sure I've connected mine to the hi-fi, but you have to switch something in the 808 menu - or am I thinking about the 706? Someone help my brain come back to life please

There's only the standard earphone jack. Unfortunately this is not the same as line-out.

You need to select the line out function from the menu on the nwa1200 too, then use a 3.5mm headphone to din plug adaptor lead to connect to any hi fi aux in. Don't forget to change this back before you plug the headphones back in, because it is VERY LOUD!! (ask me how I know!). I was hoping for something similar on the 808 to save buying more "accessories".

Thanks for that, just looked on a certain internet site that shares it's name with a big river, it looks quite good especially if it comes with an ac adaptor. I assume it does fit the 808, the picture looks like it has a removable inner section, but the sony site says ;

Compatible with the following WALKMAN models: NW-S603, NW-S605, NW-S703F, NW-S705F, NW-S706F.

Have you got one? How do you connect to a hi fi from the cradle?

what's the difference between phones out and line out? I use the phones out to plug my A808 to an HiFi and it sounds fine...

The line out still uses the same phones out jack but is a high output, way too loud for the headphones, but just the right level for external amps, so that you don't need to have the volume really high on the amp and get hissing in quiet parts. The volume button on the walkman is disabled.

This is why I have kept my HD5. It is mainly used in conjunction with my home HiFi using the line out feature :D

I have one but rarely use it. The unit connects to your HI-FI using a cable on the back.

Damn, I was considering buying a 808, but I would mainly use it connected to my hi-fi and car stereo...

Do you think I can have it working despite there's no dedicated line-out fature?

Can such a feature be implemented via firmware or does it require specific hardware? Do you think Sony will make an effort to add it in near future? (is there even any firmware update planned?)
