0 c0ldr0ses
i was thinking the same thing. Hopefully there will be some kind of firmware update.
0 LG1_
I wouldnt count on it when i got my HD5 they released the NWA with WMA soon after, the a800 is discountinued so that means you get nothing.Sony is not good with old customers only new ones
0 lokiz0r
http://www.sony.co.uk/view/ShowArticle.act...;site=odw_en_GB(the link *should* work, but it's on the front page of sony.co.uk if it doesn't)Check the model numbers. NWZ-A815, 816 and 818.Looks like there's a brand new line to phase them out, which is really disappointing. Last thing I expected, too - what's so different in there? The features are exactly the same, after all.I'll call into my local Sony Centre tomorrow and attempt to get a slightly more 'official' line on this. Heck knows I want PlaysForSure support, no more SonicStage, etc. etc. yada. yada. Edited August 31, 2007 by lokiz0r
0 c0ldr0ses
a good thing to note is that the DO have the nw A series listed as sort of their new line type of thing. This means there is a good chance we will see a firmware update for wmp11. i would love this. so much.

This means there is a good chance we will see a firmware update for wmp11. i would love this. so much. You ARE joking. Yes, it would be nice to get a firmware upgrade for the recent DAPs and it would be the descent thing to do. But, Sony are not interested in items that they have already made their money on. I repeat what I have stated on other threads, if it wasn't for the fact that the sound and build quality of the Walkman is so good I would have ditched the NW brand a long time ago........In fact, on reflection, when I consider Sony's apparent loss of direction (it looks like they are still a long way off having a solid plan for the future), maybe my next DAP will be non Sony......( and non-Apple).......... 0 aob9
OMG, they can't just do this! I want my update too!In the hope of a response I have sent the following message to 'support' on 'Sony Irelands' website. Maybe we should put them under a little pressure. In the light of Sony's plans to ditch ATRAC, SonicStage and Connect music store I think it is only fair that they provide a firmware upgrade to allow the most recent Walkman products (e.g the NW-A80* series) to be compatible with Windows Media Player. I recently invested in this product including cradle and charger, only to find that it is already 'old technology'.I hope, like others, that Sony show respect for their customers and do the decent thing!!!!Regards,A hopeful Sony Customer. I would feel exceedingly teed off if someone flaunted a new 'improved' 808 in front of me after investing the full price of £200 for the 808 (I couldn't wait for the price to come down, naturally!) and £100 for the speaker cradle. Now my player is defunct and belongs in a museum after a few months?? Also, I think Sony will alienate a lot of existing customers if they don't provide a firmware upgrade. I don't even mind paying for an upgrade (within reason) if that's what concerns them, but I would at least like the option. I know the decision to ditch ATRAC had to happen sooner or later. If I had bought a WALKMAN a year or two ago I would consider re-investing, but 2 months ago, COME ON, they owe us here!!!!!!!!!! I know what you mean. i got my shiny new A808 back in July and going to sony style uk today I see the entry price is 169.99 (the price I paid) but you get a case that I paid 20£ for thrown in for free!! I'm pretty bummed, especially as at the moment I have to export my itunes playlists and then import them into sonictsgae everytime i want to update music on the device. The only redeeming factor was I liked the conversion to 64kbps ATRAC as it meant I could get a lot more ont he device without a huge quality loss.....Pretty sure i could do similar in WMP though!!! Bring on a new firmware although I won't hold my breath....emailed both the sony store I purchased from and sony style....will post if I get anything. 0 gobb
If that's the respect Sony has for recent consumers than I take Your words mine! Bye Sony real fast!Look at this as written on our local page www.sony.skSoftvér SonicStage® budeme naďalej aktualizovať, a tak môžete s vašim prehrávačom WALKMAN® stále držať krok. A nakupovanie hudby z hudobnej on-line predajne Connect bude naďalej možné najmenej do marca 2008Which means..Software SonicStage® will further be updated so you can hold your step with your WALKMAN®. Music buying from line store Connect will still be available at least untill march 2008.Guys, for me, this means that the old fashion thing Connect will be still online some time. If they quit updating, they will have to switch to the new one that suits the S series or do something. They cant just stop selling music for the old A series customers. As they know that Windows media is probably better, I strongly think they will come out with some firmware next year that will fix this issue..For me, the A series is still better as it looks better and has bigger screen. So long :-)
