Well... after some careful thought this past week i have decided to stay with sony lol! i think i was just over excited after watching the unveiling of the new ipods last week. After reading some reviews on the net about the new ipod's they dont really seem to have been changed all that much. (and no suprise that every review i have read fails to mention absolutely anything about sound quality). i will either stick with my a806 if a firmware update does end up being released, or i will buy the new 8gig player, and use mediamonkey to manage my music library. all in all i suppose it was the whole sound quality issue that prevented me from dropping sony (as it has done so many times before now). It's really difficult to drop amazing sound quality for a more flexible option with worse sound quality. the only thing which i did prefer on the ipods were the size of the classic hard drives (80 and 160 gig). i guess i'm just one of those people who prefers to carry his entire music library around with him rather than just a few tracks off each album. anyway come on sony and release a firmware update for my a806!!!! and then maybe one that will allow gapless playback B) (or is that just wishfull thinking)

Which reviews did you read? Cnet? Who trust Cnet reviews anyway... :D

This is from the guy that did the iMod at headfi:

http://www.head-fi.org/forums/showthread.php?t=259258

I've spent quite a lot of time with my 6G iPod Classic. I 'scoped the line out and headphone outputs and followed their paths from the Apple 338S0394, which is the new CODEC (dac) chip used, to the line-out and headphone output jacks. Both the line-out stage and the headphone output stage are the cleanest I've seen from Apple. There are no opamps after the Apple 338S0394. There are also no caps, as this chip is fed a split power supply (+/- voltages), so I'm sure there is a push-pull output stage built into the chip. No measured bass roll-off issues under load. There are only a few tiny surface mount resistors/inductors in the signal path.

...

...

Based on these findings of the 6G iMod Classic, I'm thinking it is not worth modding them because it not nearly as much "stuff" in the signal path between the dac and the dock connector as the 4G, 5G, and 5.5G units, so you can't expect the get nearly the same kind of benefit.

...

...

The 6G iPod line-out sounds closer to the 5G/5.5G iMod with Vcap Dock than the stock 5G/5.5G line-out does, but saying "almost as good" might be going a little too far and may lead to people being disappointed.

I doubt any professional reviewers out there did what Vinnie did.

No, this is apple, they could release an eraser with their logo on it. And people will buy it for 50 dollars.

The same thing can be said for Sony, Bose, Monster cable, Nike, etc. It's not the company's fault that they did a successful marketing campaign to the point that they reached brand name recognition.

Actually no, PS3 released people complain its too expensive(although selling at a loss)...Iphone released everybody flocks to stores to buy one.(all though selling at a huge gain and not many features).

So no, it's just apple.

PS3 vs iPhone? Huh? How about PS3 vs Wii.

By your example, that means Nintendo is also bad since everybody lining up for the Wii, even though it's just an overclocked Gamecube (and at $250, Nintendo is making a profit, unlike Sony/Microsoft on their respective consoles).

OK, let's try this again since you fail to provide any other example except for 2 unrelated products.

Bose: Do I even need an example for this...

Monster cable: People buying $$$ cables while same/better quality cables can be bought online for a fraction of the price

Nike: Hundreds of dollars for shoes having Jordan's name slapped on it, and kids are lining up for it

Toyota Prius/Highlander hybrid: People are getting into year long waiting list just so that they can get the status quo of driving a hybrid, and dealers are selling these cars at much higher prices than MSRP.

1. Nintendo Wii yeh, it's selling like hot cakes because people are mesmerized by the motion sensing controls. It's no longer about the quality of the system with that one, it's the excitement of being able to throw your controller into the TV. Very gimmicky.

2. Bose = yes they do have quality.

3. Nike: Jordan shoes are not as popular as the ipod craze so, no sorry. but what Nike DOES do, is make a shoe ipod compatible = increase in sales.

4. Lol the hybrid market really isn't that large. A lot of people will go in blindly not knowing what they are getting into. You can't just say hybrid and everyone runs coming.

On the other hand, you put iPod or iSomething and people will buy it like no other. And how are my products unrelated? I compared an apple product that was way over priced to a non apple product that was worth the price but still expensive for some. Yet...no one complained that the iphone was too expensive. It was more like..OMFG!!! 600 dollars and AT&T WHAT A DEAL (sarcasm). -.-

Yes actually I have a bose sound system in my car to bump those beats and it is quality. And ..oh wait..you dont? Yeh exactly. You can't talk about stuff you haven't experienced.

Oh yes I do (forced option by the dealer on the model that I want), and the sound is nowhere near what I expected for a premium sound. I've experienced much better car sound system than Bose. You can't talk stuff you haven't experienced.

I'm sure you're proud of your overpriced Monster cables too huh. :D:D
