A Serious Playback Bug on A80X / A81X / S61X

Question

OK, one day I was playing a song(MP3), and these players just played this file in MONO... Then I found out that A80X & A81X & S61X have a problem playing 'DUAL-STEREO' encoded MP3 files. This does not occur if the file is encoded in 'JOINT STEREO', 'STEREO' or other audio formats.

Has anyone ever experienced this problem?

The attached file is in 'Dual-Stereo'. Test it by yourself- Play it on your computer first. The music is completely STEREO. And then play the file on the device. It will be MONO.

BTW, May I ask you guys a favor?

Would you like to share the 'default images & songs' that came with the player? I accidentally formatted my S618, and there's no way I could retrieve the default data back. (sold my A80X/A81X already.) I actually liked some of the songs in there ;)

This will not download as an MP3 file so I cannot check it out!!!!

??? I don't get it... DL the file and load it up on your device. (A80X/A81X/S61X)

You may just click on the link to DL, or try to right click on the link and 'SAVE-AS'.

EDIT: Just in case, I fixed the header on the file.

It does sound like dual mono, but it still works.

Good sounding song on the comp dont here many that are dual stereo

Yeah- :P Still, the stupid problem annoys me quite a lot. I can't believe the same problem occurs on 3 diff devices.

Sony better fix it in the next FW update...

Using firmware 1.03 on a NW-A808 the song that was provided two distinct channels are present. The vocals are present in both channels, however the instrumentals are different in both channels. I do not know how to load images, however looking at the audio signatures of both the left and right channel are noticeably different.

I might be wrong, or not understanding correctly.

Alright. Convert the song into Atrac on SonicStage, and try compare the original MP3 and converted ATR on the player simultaneously. You'll see what's up. :)

No major difference was noticed. The file was converted to ATRAC when sent to the player. That is a standard practice of mine. In both files, the instrumentals had the same difference on both channels. Upon closer inspection the vocals were slightly loader and clear on the right channel. I performed your test, and a visual test. Hopefully, Stuge will be able to notice what I am missing.
