darK (aka Tharaka)
the forums are becoming dead... no-one is replying, or making new topics... we need some new things to talk about... Andy
I'll reply - someone stole my forum post and took credit for it as a news item . My post which drew attention to Froogle was made, then about a day or two later, suddenly it is news... with someone else getting credit. Where is the justice? ... actually, I don't really care. Andy
So... what type of stuff usually gets discussed on an MD forum - I've never really been a regular at any of these places. I'm a regular at some programming boards, where there is usually a fair bit of "what are you working on" a bit of "why doesn't this work" and a bit of "have you tried this". But I can't really imagine that there is *that* much stuff to discuss about MD. I can guess a couple ("how do I get my music onto my PC", "which MD should I get?" and "my MD is screwed... fix it"), but most of them have some fairly closed answers. Perhaps I should take a look at the archives of T-Station or something.
me
"Help! N707 doesn't record" "how do I get .mp3s onto MD" "Is the N707 any good" "OpenMG" "Sonicstage" "Software doesn't work" "what's the difference between.." etc. Generally it's tech support about netmd, in the general board . Which gives me the impression that netmd isn't too great.. Off topic is well.. Off topic Usually it's just answering users questions though. You would be surprised at the um.. intelligence of some users there When new units are announced, theres usually a buzz about 'em for a couple of weeks, leading to 27 page threads on E10/N10. darK (aka Tharaka)
oh.. and lately.. "Help! my 707 doesnt charge"
Bazirker
I guess there aren't as many new topics and stuff because as the forums grow, most things can be found by simply reading other threads. For example, under the user tips and tricks forum, someone recently posted asking if there were any MZ-N707 hacks. Well, he must not have bothered to read at all, considering that he posted RIGHT NEXT TO the 4 pages worth of discussion on MZ-N707 hacks. There are only so many times you can tell someone how to get music from their MD to their computer or why OpenMG is a piece of crap. I think the "reader's topic" forum should be used more as a general discussion forum, not just MD topics that don't neatly fit into the other groups. What I mean is, why don't we use the reader's topic thing to be reader's topics, i.e. topics like "hey guys, I just recorded my band playing our best stuff, here's a link for the music, let me know what you think" or "Are Sony Vaio laptops user friendly?" While this is a minidisc forum, I don't see how taking a small portion of it and allowing members of the community to discuss aspects beyond MD. We've got people all over the world posting on these forums, perhaps the reader's forum could be seen as a more social forum while all the others are more on topic and business-like. Or, maybe I'm an idiot for suggesting that sort of thing, I'm new to this forum stuff, although I don't see what's wrong with that...like if someone has a problem with a social forum then they could simply not look at it...well, whatever. me
Rofl, look at the T-board.. So many people *don't* use the search function.. repetitive questions over and over, in the wrong forum a lot of the time  I'll bet half of my 3000 or so posts there are solely explaining why NetMD doesn't do this, why openmg does this, how you can get netmd to do this.. Stupid netmd and its hard-to-understand-ness
darK (aka Tharaka)
the T forums have gotten way out of control... too many posts.. its hard to keep track of everything...
me
It's not bad at all. You don't need to read every post.. There's enough regulars now that can answer basic questions..
darK (aka Tharaka)
yeah.. i suppose the whole 'regulars' thing is good.. like at these forums.. there are a group of people that try to help on every topic.. i think thats good.. coz then you get lots of ideas.. especially when something is broke.. and you need a lot of help... Bazirker
Yeah, having regulars is good...Me, Dark, Mystyler, Bazirker (myself), Leland, etc. We all have different ideas on stuff. I usually can figure out the hardest way possible to accomplish a task, Mystyler knows how to do stuff without touching anything that has in any way been affected by Sony, and so on. These forums are such a better tech support center than anything Sony or Sharp or anyone would offer consumers. Now if someone could just figure out how to fix my damn 707...I'm actually about to send it to MOV1 so he can poke at it a little bit. GD|eNSo
Hey im here, but usually I just read. One thing I noticed is that the questions are answered so well, that there is no need to add anything on to the thread. Also, we only have like 300 members, so that can be a reason for the lack of post. Maybe we do need a Offtopic/General forum to get some regular convos going. darK (aka Tharaka)
yeah.. we kind of do... we could make a new thread in Readers Topics called... "The Wasteland"... where you can talk about anything you want??? if other ppl agree.. we can start it
Bazirker
The Wasteland, lol, sounds good to me. Perhaps it should have a title that makes its contents more apparent...like "Reader's Topics..." considering that it already exists.

Leland
I think the forums seem dead because Mystyler's post rate has dramatically declined He must be having a good holiday!
darK (aka Tharaka)
yeah... he probably is having a holiday.. i ahvent seen his posts lately.. and no-one is creating new questions for us to answer... they are all about live recording.. and most of them are the same... Mystyler
I am indeed enjoying the mad season. There is cricket on telly, friends playing cricket outside, and I just bought me a new cricket bat - $450 down to $180. Damn I love the end of season sales.
