SP is't really worth it

For me, if source is CD, ATRAC SP is definitely worth it. But if source is mp3, I would just use LP2.

However, if you pretty much listen to them on the go, LP2 will probably be a better option because there is so much environmental noise and it's unlikely for one to tell the quality difference.

Best thing to do is try both and see which one works better for you.

Yeah, I find that LP2 recorded via NetMD sounds noticably better than optically recorded LP2. Optically recorded SP does sound better than NetMD LP2, although the difference isn't much.

HOWEVER, if you're the type that frequently sits down with some good headphones and really listens to music, you can hear weaknesses in NetMD LP2 that will not be heard in SP mode. As a result, most of my music is recorded in LP2 (25 discs worth) while I have a few other discs for SP stuff (10 discs...but note that these ten discs hold 80 minute of music a piece while the LP2 discs hold twice that, making the amount of LP2 music I have compared to SP mode come out as a 5:1 ratio.) So yes, there definetly is a point to SP mode. I bet if NetMD was capable of REAL SP mode transfer and not just phantom LP2 quality I'd hardly use LP2 at all.

I had become so used to listening to LP2 that I completely discounted the difference in sound quality. Then I recently made a close comparison between an SP digitally recorded with Type R and a Net MD copy in LP2. There was a clear difference. You have to be paying attention to the detail and really just focused on enjoying the music to care about the difference, but it is there. I still use LP2 for virtually all my minidisc uses.

Hey Golden, why does it matter if the headphones are a different brand from the unit? To the best of my knowledge, it's not like the units discriminate against other brands. A headphones jack is, well, a headphones jack regardless of the company that made it and the headphones that you use to play back the music shouldn't really care. I mean I could be wrong...but I doubt it.

What about PC? All parts are from different compagnies

Monitor: ViewSonic

CPU: Intel

MB: ASUS

HDD: Quantum

Speaker: Cambridge

Soundcard: Creative

Mouse: Microsoft

CD-RW: LG GoldStar

DVD: Pioneer

Network card: D-Link

Switch: Linksys

ADSL modem: Nortel

56k modem: USR Robotics

Alimentation: Deer

Floppy disc: Samsung

As you can see, NONE of them are the same brand, check yours if you want, doesn't matter at all..

I see what you mean; the way you said it before made it sound like you thought the Aiwa headphones wouldn't work right with a Sony md unit. Just as a thought, I think Sony headphones are generally more expensive than other brands and you'd likely be better off with a different brand (such as the ones suggested above.)

OK, but still, how does that make them different? Golden, his point was that different brands interface with each other just fine. A pair of sony headphones vs a pair of aiwa headphones doesn't make a difference as far as brand is concerned. A headphones jack is a headphones jack.
