toolowtwo
Since my lurking tells me that you two are the reigning founts of all knowledge. I just won an ebay auction for a MZ-R50 - the seller is throwing in a MZ-N505 as he says it is not working. He says he tried to adjust the NV-RAM (??) settings and it now does not play ( the mechanism works though) and just flashes NV ERR in the window. I assume this is fixable, do either of you have any wisdom, is this something I can do with the service manual or will I have to send it away to a SONY tech?? Any thoughts appreciated. mAjEsTiC
it's probably fixable if you can "unhack" the unit since i'm assuming he's tried to hack it and stuffed it up somewhere...you can check this thread to find out how to fix it up...one of the users already outlined the method of trying to attempt to revive the unit through the service menu if you can get into it in the first place...but if all fails and you can't do anything it's better if you take it back to Sony to get it repaired... toolowtwo
In fact he admits that that is what he has done. I go to buy a unit to try out Minidisc and end with two for the price of one! After a trip to the repair depot that is. JIM
mAjEsTiC
hehe...seems to me u got urself a good deal if you could get both units in working condition eventually...
BerkY
Hacking... it could be tried when your bored i guess Or when you have bought a new minidisc and want to fiddle with the old one. I wont do it to my beloved N910 though. Its just too cute (as you can see I have formed a relationship with my recorder - call me insane ). Anyway as Majestic said the unit should be fixable as long as there is nothing wrong hardware wise. Dont be so sure about it though. Getting the unit fixed could cost $$$ (and thats triple digits for ya) if "unfixing" by hacking it properly doesnt work. Sony charges a fortune for out of warranty hardware... The thread should get you started. Good luck and post more Q's when you need to Cheers BerkY
toolowtwo
.. My thinking is that if I can find the default settings for the 505 I will try my hand at fixing the damn thing, failing that I have a really good non-Sony repair joint in town that has done wonders on some of my other gear from time to time. Does anyone know where I can lay hands on the default settings for a 505 or is there a code to restore factory defaults?? Jim
