Thank you in advance to who can fix this weird problem. I have been able to record from my computer to my mini-disk player (sony MZ-N707) but I tried it the other night to add one song to a disk I had done before and it totally wiped all the songs out. I then tried to put some songs back on there and it seems like its recording and while its transfering the song to the MD it pops up messages like Data Save and TOC Edit, which supposedly means thats its actually recording. So then I try to listen to the songs after its done transfering and it displays on the window BLANKDISK. I am using OpenMG Jukebox to transfer the songs from my computer to the MD player. I have a few other disks that I created a while ago and I put them in and they play so I know its working I just am confused on why it wont record.... how do I check to make sure the USB is working correctly? PLEASE HELP! I am getting VERY frustrated with this thing.

Thank you in advance!

Chris

Have you tried another disc to see if its recording properly? If not then the program might be confused. IT does that every now and then. You should repair the software and see if that help... If it doesnt then maybe it might just related to that particular disc. Also you can try re-installing the drivers...

i think ur recording head might've gone bust...this happened on my N1 and i got it back to the Sony repair shop and got it fixed up...try recording in real-time through the computer's LINE OUT or TOSLink OUT jacks and see if it records that way...if not then it's your recording head...if it does then it's something wrong with the software/hardware interface...and try re-installing the software again...if all else fails just bring it back and claim the repair on your warranty (if it's still valid)

Hey!

I have the exact same problem as cregan 98.

It has nothing to do with the USB device, the problem sticks around for both vinyl recordings, CD recordings, using both the optical and analog cable.

 The mz-n707 sucks, I'm giving in, this is my third siny md in 5 years, can't afford it anymore.

I'm getting a cd-walkman.

what an amazing co incedence, i too have the same MD and the same problem, i've had mine about 10 months and i've used it to record maybe 4 times the entire time of owning this thing. i can't record with it anymore and it's never been out of its leather case. im pretty pissed off with Sony, it seems everything i've ever owned by sony is broken.

interesting... my name is also Chris... weird.

Gentlemen (and possibly ladies) I have the same problem i get the whole toc edit and it erases discs. there is something with the record head but unfortunately my warranty is devoid and to make it worse i am in africa. it is going to cost me an arm , a leg and a right testicle. I already gave away the left testicle to get the damn thing.

Sony is not being a fair player in these stupid net md things. To think i passed up the first generation ipods for this heap of crud.

I am the dismayed owner of the Mz-505 ......

ok Friends..i'm back. i had that prob for almost a year now. prob: MD won't record for no reason not through optica/ analogue/PC-MD.. it's simple as that guy said ur optical head's gone bad. what happened it seems is that with these MDLP models. the head goes some extra distance outwards than 1st generation mds like MZ-R70 etc...so it seems in time the lil uhh data cable that runs from the head to the unit main board breaks i mean it happened on 1st on my MZ-N707 then i was like ok i started useing me MZ-G750 to record but after a few months same thing happened that's when i went in n saw the prob so yeah u can either get the head uhh i can't remember which is for which but if u get a service manuel u can check it out(service manuels on minidisc.org) then try n order the part n save money or send it to a "SONY" repair shop n trust me u won't have no probs again. but be careful if u do it urself that the magnetic head is directely paralelll to the lens or it will damage ur discs for good.i know i got bout 7 damaged discs  ..so now u know.. 8)

You know.... pooched N707's seem to be rather common. I have the same issues.... no warranty (I'll check though) and a $170 paperweight now.... (mind you it is a rather pretty looking, shiny blue paper weight  ) So... I am getting out of the MD scene totally.... solid state MP3 player here I come!

I also had problems before with a sony discman and a sony cd for pc.

I will never buy Sony again. I am also in South America so offcourse I am fu**ed for life. We latin people don't deserve same treat as our North American fellows. And it cost me 350$ to buy this expensive crap that worked a year!!!

If there is a solution please tell me, I am planning to build a hate site for Sony, anyone wants to join? Maybe if we send a petition to Sony all the n707 users together they will refund us or give us a new MD?

IPOD here I come (when I have the cash...)

ha ha.. sorry man lazybones i feel ur pain man you're taking this thing really hard.. sad to hear you're about to develop hate for sony ..but they're not that bad all over.. try using some of their other products where it seems they put more value into making like their cameras, cam corders, televisions, sterios, headphones and some others....
